Ok about 12 months ago , only once I took off cold start at the lights and the car started to shudder.since then nothing has come up. Car was stock at the time.
Now the last two weeks 3 times, once the car has hit 80kmph
it starts to shudder N vibrate as soon as it drops below 80 it's fine, transmission fluid was topped up 3 months ago. any ideas? Suspension, transmission?

V8 Auto
195k on the clock
It has a 3 inch lift
265/75/16s

And checked the prop shaft it's fine.

My left one on the front prop shaft.

The 80km/hr sounds all too familiar. Chock your wheels, handbrake off, put the car in neutral, climb under and spin the shaft, look at both joints, will be a small crack in one of them. Size of the crack does not matter.

You need to be a little more specific. I have those exact symptoms, as far as you've explained it. I get a solid vibration through my seat at 80+. Its not the front tailshaft as this has been changed, and was still there with the shaft out. Its not the back shaft ( I think) as it reduced but I could still feel it. That leads me to believe that while its not the rear shaft, it is transmitting it. Its not upfront, as I get nothing thru the steering wheel, so I'm thinking rear axle or transfer case.

Nick,

You might get some value from the Tech Bulletin covering driveline noise attached to the following post:

Checked the front and rear drive shafts and can't see a crack anywhere. I wouldn't think it's the drive shaft, cos it's only happening in that speed range. Further digging had me thinking gearbox? Any way of checking the oil in the transfer case easily?

Have you tried 3rd gear to see if it still does it?

I had a similar thing happen to me on Monday. The drive line only vibrated at around 80km/h. It progressed to happen when ever i was accelerating. On first inspection the uni joints looked okay. Once up on a hoist it was clearly a uni so have another look.

I'm with Ben here. Have another look. See if there is sections which are a tad shinny. Like a said the smallest crack will do it.

If you are doing the Tom Woods thing... Why not just drop the front shaft and c if the vibration stays or goes.... My TW only took 5 days to arrive. James
