6x6 landie I spotted next door to work today.
Appears to be on a full custom chassis, free wheeling hubs on the rear diff and 2 tailshafts coming from up underneath somewhere.

Has anyone seen this vehicle before??

It looks like a factory civilian 6x6, with the addition of FWH.

Have a look here:
Land Rover 6x6 (http://www.ebroadcast.com.au/ecars/Perentie/6x6b.html)

When I was lad growing up in the UK, nearby was the South East Electricy Board Depot and they had LOTS of 6 wheelers, most but not all from memory had cherry pickers on them and running V8's.

Wasnt in to Landys so much then but now I think they would make a GREAT long ranger touring (LRDP  ) vehicle - with the modification of newer diesel engine...

Any way, just posting because I am a bit jelous

There were a relatively small number of these sold (during the same time period as the Perentie project, second half of the eighties), mainly to mining companies etc, who mostly ran them into the ground within a few years. There now seem to very few around - and the owners do not seem anxious to part with them. While the load carrying capability is much greater (both space and weight) than other Landrovers, they are also a lot bigger, and the relatively low top speed would be a drawback for touring - they have 4.7 diffs unless I am mistaken. All were supplied with 4BD1T turbocharged 3.9 diesels. They are an Australia only model.

The UK Southern Electricity 6X6 Defender were coil sprung, Reynolds Boughton/Land Rover Special Vehicles construction. (I have one)

Nealo, It could possibly be a guy I used to know from Kalgoorlie Paul Vaughan, he had one of these sitting in his back yard for some time. Maybe he has finally got it on the road or sold it to someone that has.
