With just over 2 years of ownership I am thinking about an extended warranty for the D4.

Below is the important part of the email I have from my dealer.

How much have others paid for the Allianz warranty?

Land Rover can offer insurance against mechanical faults with your vehicle in the form of an extended warranty. This warranty is underwritten by Allianz and provides some added benefits. These benefits are;

- Coverage per repair, up to market value of your vehicle
- Up to $ 1,000 for towing costs per claim
- Up to $ 450 emergency accommodation per claim
- Emergency locksmith access up to $150 per claim

12 month Extended Warranty / 200,000 klm - $ 2,995
24 month Extended Warranty / 200,000 klm - $ 3,495

2 years ago I paid $2400 for the Allianz 2 year, 60,000km warranty on the D3. Haven't got it on the D4 yet.

Last June Paid $2900 for 3 year 200k Extended warranty through Allianz. Only thing was their towing coverage was not adequate. Got the NRMA highest roadside assist for that.

I was quoted $3495 in November last year. I decided it was cheaper to keep the money and pay for the repairs myself but pray very hard that nothing major goes wrong with the engine or transmission etc.

I just paid $2995.00 for two year.
MLR discount = two years for the price of 1.

I sold my D3 in January & mine was the only one for sale with the extended warranty.

I beleive this contributed to the sale & price achieved.

I knew it had gone up, I paid $2400 (ex GST) for 2 year in March last year. Had the EPB actuator replace about three weeks later (covered under the extended warrranty, something like $1700 without).

My Disco 3 is coming up to the end of its warranty. Where's the cheapest place to buy the warranty? My understanding is the Allianz warranty is the best. Is that correct? Does it cover air suspension?

Thanks,
Ash

Like others I to have opted for the extended warranty and paid $2995.00 for two years coverage. Again as with others it was sold as Land Rover Assured Extended Warranty through Allianz Australia.

I had also done the same with my D2 many years back. It's a personnal choice and despite some of the negativity if you have the ready cash then it is my view that it is worthwhile. As things went I did not need it with the D2 but was happy enough in the knowledge that should a major issue arise I was covered.

Equally I hope and trust the same will be true with my D4 which will make it the best money I never used.

I was told at the time of my D4 purchase that buying the extended warranty at the same time as the vehicle meant that there was a different price to that of waiting until the standard warranty is close to expiry.

Can anyone verify that or was it just sales speak?

As far as I can remember it did not matter when you purchase the extended warranty as long as the original was still current, the price was the same, so when I bought mine towards the end of my original warranty the price was about 2400 and the same if I was buying a new car and extending the warranty then.

That said, the price has gone up nearly $1000 over the last year. This I presume is due to increased costs plus, as more of these warranties are issued, the actuaries are getting a better idea of risk and premiums are adjusted accordingly.

So possibly it is sales speak, but effectively they may well be right, the price could go up in the three years between purchase and original warranty expiration.

Anyone still interested in pricing? Meaghan Roulston is back in the finance game and she was the former best price for the Allianz warranties (search earlier threads on extended warranty to find out more). Good news for us all. Let me know if you need her contact details.

I took out a 2 year Allianz warranty yesterday.
Allianz will not disclose prices and confirmed prices are set by dealers.

Brisbane dealership

1 year $2,690 when purchasing a new vehicle or $2,995 after delivery/second hand vehicle
2 years $3,120 when purchasing a new vehicle or $3,495 later

Gold Coast dealership

2 years $3,495 when purchasing a new vehicle.

Looks like M D3 has had the same experience as I did regarding the before and after rates quoted!

It seems like a bit of a lottery as to who gets charged what.

I guess M D3's experience shows that it will pay to shop around whilst negotiating the original car deal.

They recon it is the dealer repair prices that are pushing up the prices.:(:(

You could look at it this way. (and I know I am stating the obvious).

The cost of the warranty covers the cost of the repairs and the other things ( road side assistance, accomodation etc) averaged over all of the punters plus allows for a profit. You could decide to self insure and take the chance that you will be in the majority who claim less than they have paid.

As Dirty Harry would say. "Do you feel lucky?"

I have not yet made up my mind about this. What deters me is the number of stories about things not covered or claims denied because of wear and tear issues. I am also progressively modifying my car which may reduce the list of covered claims even further.

I paid $2620.00 at ULR in Melbourne, May 2011. Vehicle was a couple of weeks shy of end of warranty. ULR did a complete end of warranty check at the time also (at time of service).
Considering I drive it all day (5 days a week) and is my work vehicle. I need the piece of mind that I know i'm covered should anything happen. Plus you can claim back on tax if vehicle is used as a tax deduction.

The dealers said that they have changed the extended warranty. You now can get up to 3 years with no additional Km or 3 years + 100K Km for $5k

$ wise it is not proportional per year
