Our 2010 D4 has developed it's first oil leak at 45000 klms. While washing the car I noticed what I thought were tiny oil spots in the dust on the rear of the car. Dreading what I would find I crawled under the car and sure enough there is an oil leak from the transfer case front drive output shaft seal.
Took the car to the local dealer who checked and agreed with the source of the leak, the appropriate seal was ordered ex Sydney and the car booked a week later for repair. One week later dropped the car back to the dealer expecting to get it back that afternoon, and as I thought would happen we received a call saying that the seal had arrived complete with the front case of the transfer case. This means the transmission has to be removed from the car, transfer case split from the transmission then dismantled so the front case can be replaced, hopefully only three days in the shop!!!
To their credit the dealer has been as helpful as they could be and are giving us a Golf during the repairs. (tried for their demo Evoque but no banana)
The car is a 2.7ltr that has done probably 12000klm towing about three tonnes of caravan the rest have mostly been on highway, gravel roads and a small proportion around town with no serious off road work.
Love the car but end of warranty concerns me as we have the intention of keeping it for the long run.
Cheers and I hope I'm an orphan with this problem
