There are some nice looking P38's on here. Thought I'd show you mine.

2001 HSE 4.6L, 114K Miles

Its riding on Old Man Emu Springs about 3 inches of lift with a front custom lower spring mount welded to the axle. I'm using Bilstien 5150 shocks as well.

I also have a 9500 lbs winch built into the stock front bumper.

G'day, thats a tidy p38 you have there! Do you take it out bush often? How do you find the coils compared to air springs?

Enjoy!

Nice to see someone from the USA on board here at AULRO!

 I really like that "discreet" winch mount behind the standard bumper, how did you do that?

Welcome! ...and you're in the right place for wide open spaces !! Likewise would welcome some detailed info / pics on your winch setup...very neat and tidy indeed! Are the wheel rims steel or alloy? Their 'offset' seems a tad different from the usual as well!:D

Thanks. Check out my build threads. I've always wanted a RR. I looked for a classic and ended up with a P38. I love it.

Mine came with the British Atlantic coil conversion on it. Ive worked on and driven them with air suspension. I personally don't like it.

I use mine off road a lot. We use it for camping and four wheeling. I'll post pictures later.

Specs:

*Old Man Emu Coils for a RR Classic Heavy Duty versions about 3" of lift.

*Bilstien 5150 shocks. 10" of travel.

*removed the swaybar

*Pro Comp Rockcrawler Wheels. 16" wheels.

Pro Comp Wheels Part 87-6820 - Series 87 Rock Crawler - Gloss Black Steel Wheel by Pro Comp (http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/Series-87-Rock-Crawler-Gloss-Black-Steel-Wheel-by-Pro-Comp.aspx't_c=11&t_s=209&t_pt=100021&t_pl=101921&t_pn=PCW87-6820)

*BFG All Terrains 245/75/16 load range E

*Rough Country 9500 lbs winch. Synthetic Rope

*1000 CCA battery

*Custom Stereo

Still need to get a roof rack for the spare tire. 4.10 gears, ARB locker for the rear axle, better speakers inside, CB Radio.

Most of the money i put into the truck went to wheels tires and suspension. I bought it with 95000 miles. I'm up to almost 115000 miles in 1.5 years of ownership. I've redone the whole cooling system. New radiator, new water pump, new heater core o-rings, new intake heater assembly. I've replaced all the fluids and run Mobil 1 10w40 full synthetic in the engine. I get 15 mpg on the highway, 9 bombing through town.

Very nice setup Sawtooth, welcome to the forum.

I generally not a fan of coil conversions, but it does seem to suit your truck.

Cheers, Paul.

Welcome to the forum Sawtooth, it's very informative to see the work that you have done re fitting the winch to you bumper. Which OME springs are fitted to your rig?

Keithy P38

From what he mentioned above they are 3" lifted heavy duty rr classic springs!

I don't remember the part number. I think the tags have come off the springs as well.

I'll check later to see if there any tags left on the springs.

A little update to my build.

Started working on my switch panel yesterday.

Starting the wiring project on the range rover. Roof lights, underbody lights, and front bumper lights.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/02/228.jpg

I'm using trailer wiring to run the switched power to the relays that will be under the hood. It's 4 wire and 4 different colors. 16 gauge should be plenty to send a signal to the relays for operation.

Switch panel.

Started working on the switches.

I'm going to add one more switch to run the air compressor I have under the hood as well.

My climate control bulbs showed up from roverparts.com yesterday, so i replaced all the bulbs. Hoping that will let my cruise control work again. Who the hell decided bulbs should be the fuseable link to make the cruise control have power. Damn the Brits sometimes.

Who the hell decided bulbs should be the fuseable link to make the cruise control have power. I wondered if that was the case. My cruise button doesn't light up when it's 'on' & I usually need to flick it 'off' then 'on again to make it work initially.

I lived in the Midlands (England) from 1998-2000. I love the place. I really liked Boston and Milton Keynes. Someday I'll go back with my wife for a few weeks holiday.

Maybe that's why i like Jags, TVR's, Merc's, and Rovers. And I picked up saying Damn and Hell all the time. Still haven't stopped that.

nothing is hooked up to anything yet. I still need to get relays and lights.

The windscreen is getting replaced Monday. The previous owner had a non-heated on installed. Mine finally cracked and insurance is replacing it with a nice new heated unit! I'm excited to be able to see when it snows. For some reason snow and ice just stick to this windscreen.

Please tell me one of those switches will launch Patriot missiles or something that makes a big bang!

About time someone started getting down to earth... we (self included) can be pretty precious with our old P38's "down under". I think a lot of people still want them to stay 100% original and unadulterated (self included in the past).

At long last, my mind is now comfortable with modifying like "dremel-ing" up guards and perhaps even getting out the grinder if I want to get bigger rubber under her!

No offence intended to people wanting to stay standard!

The very top two will operate:

*an electric air compressor under the hood.
*Power inverter in the rear area

The other four:
*forward facing roof lights
*6.5" HID Lights on the grill gaurd
*Underbody lighting (usually called rock lights)
*Roof lights for camping facing each side and to the rear.

My goal is to keep it stealth. everything i've done, and will do, i want it to be understated and hard to see until you take a closer look. The only thing that really stands out is the lift and tires.

i'm really taking my time and thinking through my modifications. I really like the look of this vehicle. its not a rockcrawler, its for exploring and still being able to run down the interstate at 80-100 mph comfortably. (i only hit 100 if i'm passing a semi.)

Top Gun meets Biggles!

I think there's one switch unaccounted for:.......the TeasMaid switch for that authentic brew when British'ing it up before going off-road. :D

I've always thought that the area you put the switches into is underutilised, I had thought of putting in a lcd screen in the space and seeing if I can get my iPhone to play movies through it. Currently my wife stuffs it full of lipstick, eyeliner and all sorts on non-essential kit that annoys the 'hell' out of me.

Nice switches - are they very bright at night?

Also, like to see your secondary compressor, is it rigged into the suspension?

the air compressor is the only one on my vehicle. i've had this on a few jeeps and now its going to fill tires using the EAS tank.

I'm on coil springs, so no need for all that crap that was under the hood. I put the bigger electric air compressor in the place of where all that EAS stuff was. I'm also going to add an air and water separator with the system.

I'll post up more details when i get around to that part. I'm hoping to take a trip down to Moab Utah in a few weeks to play with the rover on some slick rock.

well, its been a wee bit since I have been on here. But I did take a short trip (amount of time I had to spend there) to Moab Utah. It was almost 1800 miles round trip. I spent more time driving there then I got to play around. But it was well worth the trip. My wife and I left the kids with my in-laws, so it was like we were on honeymoon again. kind of. he he.

Some pictures and videos of the fun. We ran Gold Bar Rim, Golden Spike, and Poison Spider. We did them all with no lockers, 3" of lift on OME springs, and 31" tires. We saw a few jeeps on 44" tall tires doing the same trail as us. Just goes to show the supreme abilities of a Land Rover. Jeeps suck!

my wife an I ran the trails alone. there was no way I was going to do anything that would break the vehicle and get us stranded. The Golden Crack was dodgy enough. I was committed though.

I've got to say, the traction control worked wonders on this surface, and the tires hooked up well.

Well i started another project today. It's been waiting to get done for a long time. Its not exactly finished yet. I need to get a battery and then get a mount to put it in the rear of the range rover.

Dual battery isolator! finished look. i used the secondary air injection bracket. it broke off last year and i threw it away. I kept the bracket though. I modified it with a bit flat stock i had lying around from when i built my bumper.
