continual rebuffering on dowloads

My computer is using adsl2+ with Telstra yet from time to time when trying to watch stuff the computer stops until it has downloaded more info, then starts again. Why is it doing this? (only on some sites). Jim

I had this problem quite a while ago.
Problem with my setup was having 2 firewalls activated, one in the network router and one on the computer. If you have a modem router same same.
I received good advice on this forum to deactivate the firewall on the computer and leave the firewall active on the router and the network would still be protected.

Maybe just slow download speed - ADSL2+ is no where near as good as it is cracked up to be - get more than a couple of km from the exchange and yoi will have slow speed. My ADSL 2+ only gets .8Mbps and I am 3km from the exchange.

I agree with Garry, its great if you live next door to an exchange but for most of us its a few k away at least, when using ozspeedtest website i get a line speed of 6MB/s but only get 1/10th of that at about 600kb/s real download speed and i'm about 5k from my local exchange - roll on NBN :)

Could be an issue with the server, depending on how many people are actively trying to watch videos from the site you are on. Theres only so much bandwidth to go around and everyone has to share.

I wish I could get that speed - just downloaded a 37mb patch so I can read Office 2010 files with Office XP and mine was going at 50kb/sec and I am only 3.5km from the exchange.

Most routers will have protection as well as network security.

You go to the menu in your router and log on with your password. The router will have an internet address, which you just type into your browser.
I hope you know your password.

You will see quite a few security settings including accepting inputs by MAC address, and it should have a firewall enabled option and accept/reject ping option.( do not repond to pings )
I have mine set to only accept coms from individual MAC addresses which should protect me from passers by using my wifi.
