Hi guys I am looking for a place that supplies and fits the 3rd row seat for a 110 defender. I need to increase the number of seats from 5 currently due to our family size increasing, as this would be a cheaper option than replacing it. Your help is appreciated thanks

Hope you get some advice. I have tried before on the forum. Nothing back.

Another thread also but nothing on his request either. Dealer quoted me. $7000-9000 to fit two 3rd row seats. Mmm thanks a lot!

I know it needs engineer sign off, and extra plates.

Has your family shrunk?.. in your intro you said you were a family of six lol.. :)

Not sure where you can get the extra row of seats put in but I imagine that it won't be cheap at all if you are going to make it compliant (and as you want to keep it registered and look after your family I'm sure you will want to do that).. good luck with it though..

Oh I just wanted to pop in and say because many years ago I also lived in Nhulunbuy.. love that place! :)

Exmoor trim in the uk do an aftermarket 3rd row seats for defenders. They should be a straight forward bolt on job and you might even have holes already in the rear tub for the seats. They come as bench seats or forward facing seats.

Other option is to buy them from the wreckers. not a cheap option though. Bear in mind that the ones form a later puma will not fit the earlier models without some modifications to the rear tub wheel arch

hope this helps

A phone call to Graeme Cooper Automotive (9530 2689) might help solve this. I was speaking to them the other day and they mentioned two outfitts in Sydney who do seating work - unfortunately I cant find the details:mad:.

The reason I asked was I am considering the possibility of putting an extra seat between the driver and front passenger! I haven't got round to pursuing it further at this point, but what came out in conversation was:
- You pay about $700 for the engineers certificate
- In the case of an extra front seat you need a shoulder belt - Exmoor Trim in the UK do one Front Seats (http://www.exmoortrim.co.uk/catalogue/browse/28-front-seats.html'sef=hc)

Hope that helps.

Africa. Thanks.

I had also thought of extra seat in front instead of 1or 2 in the back, although would miss the cubby box.

Where I'd the cost is engineer sign off? Does that include fitting?

Has anyone done either legally?

If the exmoor seats have been designed (engineered) for the application you want, would they provide a certificate? If they are installed iaw their instructions I can't see you have too many problems.

Unless the compliance plate can only be changed with a locally approved signatory engineer sign off.

I'd thought it would be like fitting the bars to provide anchor points for child seat belts. I am pretty certain that you don't have to get a $700 engineers sign off for that, then again it probably doesn't involve changes to the compliance plate.

Ok. This is my understanding, and please correct me if I am off the pace.

Yep, but seats, belts etc from wherever: wrecker, UK exmoortrim etc
Check

For seats and belts.
Point 1. I have been led to believe extra plating to reinforce where you anchor seats& belts : floor, side of car etc.

Is this true?

Point 2. You car has a registered number of seats. If you increase this you need to get it approved by your state motor association. Exmoortrim have nothing to do with this.
Vehicle inspection person will want to
Know that the seats and belts are strong enough to withstand accidents , and they will require a engineer to sign off on the former of extra seats.
Cost?

I wish Rick, blande, Uzi, drover, pat or one of those guys that seems to know everything could enlighten us.

When I get out of hospital I am going to try the MR auto recommended earlier in the post.

Ive sold my defender now and havnt been back to AULRO for a while but just came back to look at things and saw this post -get hold of a 2000 model holden jackaroo rear folding seat and with a $20 angled plate it fits straight into a defender. the seat even has its own built in seatbelt system- and you just slide a long bar out to remove it from the defender. It also folds in half and up against the side if you want. I dont have pictures but if you take a look at a rear folding seat from the jackaroo you can see how to make the bracket- a large 350mmx 300mm plate bent into an angle piece with 2 tubes welded onto the edge of bend to hold the bar that connects the seat. then just bolt plate to the wheel well with backing plates and your done, its a perfect height too. $50-$100 for the seat, $20 for the bracket and 1 hour to fit it and you save $1000s

In Nsw they can fit original seats to the correct year mod. If they where an option so a td5/tdi can get the rear inward facing 2 seatx2 benches fitted out of another def which is what I did two years ago without the need for a 700 dollar eng. Certificate. Call LVS at silverdale. If you fit non original seats you need an engineer certificate. I also have a horizontal bar fitted for the 3 child seat bolts by a local centre cost about 400. Again no cert. Needed
