I'm after a New HI Lift Jack, but not sure which to get……48inch or 60inch . I'll be using it both for recovery and moving star pickets. Which size is better?
When on trips I'll want to store it out of the car maybe at the rear (defender 90) rather than on a rack...is there such a mount? (I've seen them but not sure if they are DIY or bought).
And lastly, what other accessories to the jack are worth the money?
Any advise would be appreaicted.

Iv'e only ever used them a few times in 33 years of 4x4ing but when I did it was in the worst rutted mud filled goop imaginable so personally I would go for the longest one

You probably have an electric winch, but if you had to use the high-lift as a winch the longer the better (just less re-hooking the chain).
Is this the mounting kit you where thinking about?

If you do mount it that low, I'd suggest you put a cover over the jack mechanism to protect it a little from dust and mud build-up...

Thanks for the replies. What about a vertical mount?...off the body rather than attached to the wheel? Is this possible on a defender?

Places like kaymar do one that could be adapted to the spare wheel on the back of the door, 60 inch one might be a bit big for that though.

When I use my 48" jack on my winchbar's front jacking points, I use up most of the travel on articulation before the wheels leave the ground, with only around two inches left beyond when on a flat surface. I'll probably need to get a 60" bar when i extend my County's wheel travel.

Quite a few of the British accessory suppliers do a vertical mount for the rear cross member. Basically a base plate fitted to the rear cross member like the front runner, but it does require you to drill a hole through the body capping below the RHS small window to fit the shaft receiver.

Yip, I had one on my last Defender and you could probably make something like that at home... (just 2 brackets with a bolt that goes through the jack)

I was told to remove it a few times as it's 'blocking' the light, so keep that in mind when you fit one..

Man up! Size does count. 60", end of story.
All the other 'stuff' about where to stow it is just white noise, well, that's my opinion anyway. You'll always find stowage areas/location.
