Whilst the gearbox is out of the 120 and one from Ashcroft will soon be slotted in, I gave the local bloke a go but the gearbox that came out was so shagged it was a very marginal exercise to rebuild it.

Had a look at the front drive shaft and its unis other than the uni's are shagged from sitting so long the crosses don't line up with each other now this might be the way things are done for a reason or someone somewhere has put the thing together wrong. Any clues to which is the case?

The front uni's are out of phase to reduce vibrations.

The reason is that the diff pinion and t/case out put shaft are at the wrong angles relative to each other for two simple universals to work correctly, so the factory fits them out of phase slightly.
