Range Rover Evoque Convertible leaks ahead of Geneva debut (http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/24/range-rover-evoque-convertible-leaks-ahead-of-geneva-debut/)

While we're still waiting for official details, we have received confirmation from the blokes at Land Rover (http://www.autoblog.com/land+rover/) that the Range Rover Evoque Convertible you see above is the real deal, and it will debut at next month's 2012 Geneva Motor Show (http://www.autoblog.com/geneva-motor-show/).

At this time, Land Rover is calling the roofless wonder a concept, though a production model seems likely at some point in the near future. Based on the three-door Evoque (http://www.autoblog.com/land+rover/evoque/), the convertible model will offer seating for four and be billed as the world's first premium convertible SUV (sorry, Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet (http://www.autoblog.com/nissan/murano+crosscab/)!).

Top Gear fans were some of the first to hear about the droptop Evoque when presenter Jeremy Clarkson used a pair of scissors to cut the roof off an Evoque during a news segment this week, but it took a while before the crafty Internet got around to leaking real images. See for yourself in the image gallery above, and stay tuned for official information as we draw ever closer to the Evoque Convertible's official debut. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/02/201.jpg (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-range-rover-evoque-convertible-concept-leaked-images/#photo-4840769/)https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/02/202.jpg (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-range-rover-evoque-convertible-concept-leaked-images/#photo-4840770/)https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2012/02/203.jpg (http://www.autoblog.com/photos/land-rover-range-rover-evoque-convertible-concept-leaked-images/#photo-4840771/)

Obviously, Range Rover wants folks to see its new concept car before it ships off to Switzerland next month. Reading University student Simon Truscott (https://twitter.com/#%21/Simon_Truscott) snapped (http://twitpic.com/8ofzch) the Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet (http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/24/range-rover-evoque-convertible-leaks-ahead-of-geneva-debut/) in a London alley, apparently catching it in the midst of a photo/video shoot. We'll admit that this isn't the ragtop Evoque's best angle. Without a greenhouse to offset its full-figured bottom, the topless off-roader looks pretty chunky.

Range Rover says it'll monitor audience reaction to the concept after it's formally revealed at the Geneva Motor Show (http://www.autoblog.com/geneva-motor-show/) (as surely as it's tracking the feedback people are posting already). Their words: "The concept is being shown to gauge reaction and to assess the potential for what could be another unique product from Land Rover."

If we had to place bets, we'd wager that a production version will eventually appear in showrooms. You'll find a press release with Range Rover's official statement after the jump.

Editor's Note: Our original tipster forwarded the photo as an attachment, leading us to believe it was his in original. It's since become quite clear that Simon Truscott was the photog who snapped the photo and shared it on Twitter. The post has been modified to reflect this. - AN

That is sooooooo typical of a land rover to leak !!
And they were going on the long journey to Geneva too tut.
It's not actually a cabriolet version, it's just that the standard of workmanship has sunk to new levels, it just wasn't finished after a tea break!

I'll stick to my hardtop Evoque, too many problems with soft-tops in long term....

Like to see the roof retracting, see how it works.

I would have one of those... Primarily for the Mrs as she has been wanting a convertible for some time, but also because it just looks tough.

Lopping the roof off has taken away that squashed RRS look of the 3 & 5 door hard tops. Very nice tuff looking little truck! Needs proper rubber and some bash plates though.

The thought of screaming through the Vic High Country sans roof appeals big time. And how cool would some high country red clay look splattered all over that designer interior? Yep, it's on my "one day" list.

Here's hoping the pricing sets the convertible cheaper (a'la Suzuki Sierra) not dearer like Benz/BMW etc.

And runs on burgers. That's a convertible.

You know if the windscreen folded forward it would nearly be as cool as my series 1.:D

I think LR is right about who will buy it. :D

Jaguar Land Rover is expected to be inundated with enquiries and WAGs across the country will be revving up for a rush to the showrooms.
