My EGR has previously removed on my 05 Defender, and a 1/2" copper pipe was used to bypass where the EGR cooler would have been.

So Im going to remove some redundant pipework

Originally the EGR cooler was fed from the Oil cooler water outlet thru a short rubber connecter hose into a metal pipe around the back of the head & under the inlet manifold then into the EGR cooler & then back to the 4 way connecter under the header tank.

I was going to replace the 4 way connector with a 3 way brass barb tee
and run a new hose from the oil cooler into the a new tee in the heater hose which currently runs from the 4 way connector.

Then I found this Vehicle Service Kits and Parts - Td5 Overheating prevention - Silicon blanking plug (http://landyonline.co.za/shop/product_info.php/cPath/22/products_id/158?osCsid=72a65f84ddc38600a7c4f038c8a10b5e)

and some posts about local D2's which also show the oil cooler blocked off.

Does anyone know if the oil cooler has an internal water flow or does it actually need the hose connected for the cooler to work.

It would be a lot simpler to just block off the Oil cooler outlet & replace the 4 way under the Header tank with a 3 way, then remove the redundant pipes.

And does anyone know does the oil cooler barb take 5/8 hose or 3/4 hose.

thanks ..Don

OK Fine, don't worry. I found the answer.
For anybody else that wanted to know, You don't need the Water pipe on the oil cooler connected to anything as the Cooler matrix itself sits in the full flow of the water gallery in the block.

So basically I will ditch all the coolant plumbing from the oil cooler to the EGR & back to under the header tank. Basically I just need to replace the 4 way connecter with a 5/8 brass T piece.

Pulling out a meter to so of pipes & hoses will make maintenance a whole lot simpler & no need to carry all those extra hoses whilst touring.

:DYes,

When I did mine I got the hose from the non-water cooled model which goes from the right side (end of metal pipe) down to the bottom front of the radiator where there was a spigot.

I taped the spigot and connected the hose. I was then able to use the standard three way connector under the reservoir. The good thing was that by using the three way connector I was able to change all the heating hoses and hose to the fuel cool to a standard size.

If I was going again I'd do exactly what you're proposing. Saves a few pipes and pulling out the radiator to tap the spigot and takes hoses to standard size right through.:D

hi guysthis is my first timeon alro re td5oilcooler i think it would be better to change thecooler to a external air cooled system to do this pull the housing off removethe cooler turn thefittings arond in housing andbuy two high pressure type fittings andhoses to asuitable air cooled matrix located in a airflow thisalso needs to be done to the fuelcooler re heater this removes alol of heat from the cooling system regards ray:)
