L322 front diff recall

I'm days away from buying my first RR, its an 04 with 60k and it has no service history.

I've searched the forum but can't find the details on the front diff recall.
If it HASNT been done I assume its too late?

Can anyone give me a idea on how much it will cost me?

Not sure on costs, but you are too late - the recall ended on the 1st Jan. To find out if it has been done, contact a dealer and they can tell if you give them your VIN, or pop your head under the car and look where the driveshaft meets the front diff - if the recall has been done, then there is a little rubber bit in the end of the driveshaft, and a small heat sheild above it to protect it from the exhaust.

Pitty it doesn't have a service history - if it has been through a dealers workshop at any stage, they would have done it.

I'm not sure if the fix is just the rubber bit, or if the whole driveshaft is different. I'm sure someone will chime in here to add some detail...:)

If your getting it done at a stealer, probably higher than lower... I would suggest ringing up and finding out, then use that to bargain more money off the price.

Remember, it's a buyers market for these things. Haggle hard, and be prepared to walk away. They will come back to you - they all do. I had a call from EVERY seller whose car I looked at asking if I was still interested.

search range rovers.net for details on what the recall involved. I think there are some pics there as well. There's an outfit in the US selling revised front shafts to solve the problem altogether... they advertise on the RR.net website...well they did!!

If it not already done, buying a new prop shaft from a stealer over the counter and installing yourself is a one hour job. As long as the front splines in the front diff havent been damaged by lack of flexibility in that front prop shaft. Agree with ringing a stealer for a quote on a new spec prop shaft. They will know about the problem, since it was a world wide 'service action'.

Have you considered a P38? Their prop shafts never suffered such design flaw ignominy :wasntme:
