Driving lights on a Freelander 2

I've been at the camping / caravanning / 4wd show in Adelaide today, and two separate vendors suggested one means of mounting driving lights could be a universal bracket off the numberplate screws like this:

I'm sceptical of how well this can be mounted and whether it's not just going to fall off on bumpy tracks, even with some very small, light lights. I'm pretty sure the numberplate screws are only designed to hold a numberplate, and not lights! As we all know, there's no real front bar available for the Freelander 2, which gives both the problem of no protection from roos, and nowhere obvious to mount lights in an attempt to avoid them in the first place.

Any thoughts?

Are those LR pods in addition to the front fogs, or a replacement?

They're in addition. It's a factory fitted option, I've never seen them in real life though. Your FL2 would have to be an earlier model (<09 I think) that has a round fog light recess as the current model has some squarish looking recess and this wouldn't fit.

Hmmm. It's an MY10, and I think the fog lights (already fitted) are round. I'll give the parts guy here in Adelaide a call on Monday with the VIN and see what he says. There's also an independent here so I might give them a call and see if they have any advice.

I do find this puzzling - regardless of whether LR or anyone else thinks the FL2 is a true 4wd or not, I'm most likely to hit wildlife whilst driving on the road - it seems crazy that there isn't an easy solution to this!

I dont think using a number plate bracket woud be a sucess because recently I took my FL2 gently through a creek crossing at the max wading depth of 500mm and tore the front number plate off . With lights and bracket I would reckon that you might lose it all and possibly set of air bag . Doug
