Mate just drove back from Perth(1200 Kilometer drive) with the battery light stuck on ,at night with spotties as well !. So I stuck on my Torque + reader and shows a consistent 12.5V charging from the altenator, with a gradually discharging main battery, down to 12.3 volts. So,after a bit of research,it was obviously the Altenator at fault ,VCR controlling. So bought a new Altenator and for good measure a new LR battery.
So did a Altenator Change ,easy as ,1.5 hrs with the right tools ,a 36mm open ende and 4lb gimpy!!!
So why did this altenator fail?
The Alternator was full of Coolant !
Some mechanic had decided to shove a Hose on so far it was clamping on the radius instead of the flat area , Look closely at photo and its obvious.
There was even Red muck, dried coolant coming out the rear of the Altenator ,no wonder it Died !New one ,14.5 start average run 13.9

Properly position Hose/clamp

Am surprised you were not having to addcoolant over time if it had been weeping onto Alternater.... or do you think it has all come out when the hose was changed ? Bloody expensive coolnt to have to keep adding.

Was the Alt hard to source, and is there after market available or only genuine ?

Glad to here its a realitively easy change.

Yep,he was adding al little Distilled water, probably around the 1/4 litre amount each time he checked it,but there were no obvious leaks .More than likely its been leaking since the hose ws fitted incorrectly.(The hose was fitted badly when the new engine went in ,why a new engine ,you dont really want to Know LMFAO)
Altenator was only $500 new (or nearly $400 for overhauled one)from stealers ,but the poor stealers insist on service exchange ,unlucky ,better send some one up to collect it LOL .This is the same car that was to have a Turbo change, they went to get it onto the Bodylift jig ,and it wouldnt get up the ramps on its own,! Threw the the old Turbo U/s code and the MAF/iat code .Changed he MAF/iat switch ($500) and engine now ran perfectly, phew!! no $6000 turbo change required .
Hers the MAF/IAT ,you have to buy the whole box and dice to get a switch
