LT230 POPS OUT OF LOW RANGE

Hi all
I am curently in the process of rebuilding my transfer case out of my 300tdi auto 95 series one disco, one of the reasons i decided to do this was due to it popping out of low range, if you were going up an incline and had to back off the throttle for whatever reason, as soon as you applied power again it would jump out. Believe me this is not a fun thing to have happen on a steep slope whilst 4x4ing, thats for sure. Would anybody know what is causing this, or what retains it into low range.

Sounds as though there may be excessive endfloat of the centre diff assembly, or linkage adjustment isn't quite right. The undercut dog clutch teeth on both the gear and dog collar are what is intended to retain the range selected.

if you haven't aleady taken it out, why not check the linkages and engagement as wagoo posts - good chance that that is what the problem is

engage low range with the high-low lever, then get under and see if you can push it any further into engagement on the t/c

The linkage arrangement is pretty ordinary on a 300Tdi so as the blokes above suggest, I'd try looking at the linkages first.

Ill add nothing but maybe.....not sure of what year LR introduced the cross drilled gear (imput I think) but if you do have it stripped apart, AND, yours does not have this, It is a very good improvement for lubrication.

There is also a little sump available for them. It is simply a matter of removing the bottom cover plate and replacing with the sump plate. This adds about 500-700ml of oil capacity to the T/case which helps a little with cooling.

I believe they are now available on ebay Aus. I got mine from Roverdrives.
