MAF - difference in prices / quality?

Hi All, hope you are well....

Have been doing some research into getting a replacement MAF, and just wondering whether the US related ones on ebay are any good?

Compared to what some are asking for in Australia (up-to an extra 100.00+)... is there anything 'more special' about the ones for sale in australia as apposed to the US ones??

Is there anything 'special' that I need to look out for (or not)....

(Obviously you get what you pay for... but not always)

I just ordered one for my D2 V8 from LRSeries in the UK, genuine Bosch $145.00 including postage. I would hve prefered to have purchased from an oz seller, but at over $100 more, the UK got my business.

From what I have read on this topic, it's a safer bet buying genuine, the cheaper copies can cause dramas.

just be a tad wary that some other countrys disco's had 4.6ltr engine,Maybe they have a larger maf,I havn't been able to find out for sure though.
Interesting discussion here though,about replacing the interals only.

Just make sure the part number matches.... They have different chips depending on application and the hose inlet bodies vary in size.... James

You CAN fit them yourself Lp,,,
its only 3 clips and a bit of a wriggle,,
takes under 30 secs if you (have the need to) practice:angel::D

just BEWARE of the small hard BRITTLE plastic tube near the rad!!!:eek::eek:
(even if you warn the mech about it--)

We have been looking at getting a MAF aswell as a spare for when ours dies and that could be in the near future, i was told not to get a none branded 1 only a VDO, the none branded are half the price and from what i was told half the quality. We were told of british4x4.com in Hobart and his prices are very good

Yay! 30 second job, I like the sounds of that :D... but probably would take me 30 mins lol! I'm blind without the rave cd right now (original & copy have mysteriously gone walkies :( ),

I googled an image of what a MAF should look like and I guess it would explain why I couldn't find the MAF ON TOP :eek:... Rad being radiator right, and underneath?? Perhaps you could so kindly point me into the direction of where exactly the MAF is located? :p

Mate, if u want I can can mms some photos over to you... If you want to pm me a number or I will text by return 0427 445 677 . Also make sure the air box cover re seats itself properly on the filter box..... Or u will put ire new maf at risk of water damage!! James

Hi James, thanks for your kind offer of help... i'm about a month away from saving up for anything replaceable... unless I take up the offer of one that was offered to me second hand as an interim measure...

You may have got the gist I am an "L" plater on the mechanics side in LR land as well as walking blind without my rave cd @ present... however... more than happy to learn moving forward - on and up :-D

So.... when you mention the airbox - no idea where that is... when you mention the filter box - no idea where that is either... as for water damage.... I DO know that I won't be crossing any creeks or rivers anytime soon either lol (& I don't plan on driving with the bonnet up lol)...

....however regardless of that....

Would you perhaps be happy/willing to upload your photo's with a brief description to the tutorials section so it not only helps me but anyone else? If not, let me know.... we could work on this together perhaps and post it to the tutorials section for the naffs (no offence) out there like me :-D

here 'tis!
There are 3 overcam clips on the rad end,,
(undo one and you'll understand)
a normal type spring clip to undo the wiring, and a screwdriver driven clamp at the engine end,,

again.
be aware of the small brittle plastic hose near the rad. ;)

Hi there MAF replaced best thing every changed to make a difference to the old girl!:)

A replaced MAF (original)... amazing how much better it drives... no coughing or spluttering either and seems more zippy (as 'zippy' as a landrover can be lol)... so next week will be the air filter.... fingers crossed this all improves the fuel efficiency (if such a word exists with V8's lol).... it's been short of thirsty to put it politely!

Given that I now know where the MAF is & saw how to take it off.... I have a question:

Should cleaning the MAF w/ the CRC cleaner be part of a regular maintenance schedule? If so, how often do you think it should be cleaned/checked?

(note - no river crossings here but occasional dusty roads)...

As its new I wouldnt touch it until you get that old familiar feeling(lack of Zip)

as for the air filter--
not many brands fit properly,,

anyone recommend a brand that fits and part number?

As for air filters... was going to pick one up from my mechanic. He recommended either Coopers or one called Mahls or something similar to that??

Not sure if that helps... i'll find out when I get one next week :-D

Theres a whole world of thinking ref cleaning.... Having had the expense of replacing a maff due to cleaning.... No i wouldnt ever do it again... As long as the air filter system from intake to maff is secure then it should be okay.... If u are worried make it a 5 year replacement item...
