When I removed my water pump there was a 3cm long 1 1/2 cm diameter tube rattling around in there. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if any one knows where it comes from.

It's the tube that should be in the bottom outlet fitting of the expansion tank, its outlet leads into the lower hose. If your expansion tank is one of the original black ones, get a new one ASAP. Newer ones are milky white in colour.

After speaking with a Landrover Mechanic he said that this happens quite a lot and that it is the copper tube that they use to strengthen the joins where the 2 hoses branch off on the original bottom radiator hose. They can dislodge and work their way into the water pump over time. New hoses dont have these inserts.

If it's black, does that always necessarily mean that it's original. Were there any replacement ones that were black?
