View Full Version : Potentially dumb questions...

OK, I'm a P38 Noob. Let's move on to the dumb question...
When I am at Standard height and I want to lower to Motorway height, the EAS goes straight for Access height. I can stop that from happening by using the Inhibit switch.
Why!?
Also, my lazy unlock doesn't seem to work. I'm disappointed - unless it's an ID10T error....
Also, I put a really nice aranthacite (sp?) switch gear surround in tonight. Range Rovers are easy to work on.
This (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/220940863456'ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649)is the one I bought.

When you are driving or when you are stopped?

Because they were built that way

If you move off when the vehicle is in Access height, it will move to Normal once you exceed a preset speed (cannot remember how fast but it's in the Owners Manual).
So it makes no sense for you to be able to set Access when you are moving.

I don't think it should do that. Pretty sure it should be going to highway when moving and over ride switch is off NOT access. I understand that you still need to be within the parameters of the EAS's programming- logic (I.e. travelling at the right speed). Also pretty sure it should not be possible to select access at all when vehicle is in motion. The only way to move in access height is to select crawl mode (for low carparks etc) which will still disengage automatically if you go over 10kph (or something low like that).
Have a look at your owners manual, if it's not behaving as that outlines, I would say you need to plug into a decent diagnostic tool and see if any relevant EAS or sensor faults exist.
Sounds like you might have an original P38 problem... I haven't heard of that one before!

I think it's at speeds of around 35 km when access goes to normal, then over 80 km/h after 30 seconds going to highway mode.

I can be doing 50km/h and the thing will try to go to Access from Standard. I realised what it was doing and had to quickly tap the UP button.
Hmm. Maybe the EAS isn't sure of the speed I'm going. Although it changes to Motorway height automatically perfectly correctly. On second thoughts, maybe that's not it.

Inhibit switch simply cancels the automatic functions ->fully manual
When inhibit switch is not depressed:
access < - > normal < - > high
The vehicle will not normally allow you to select Access height while moving but you can 'manoeuvre' the vehicle at walking speed e.g. when in low clearance situations. As soon as you exceed about 7kph it will rise to normal.
If the inhibit switch is depressed, then you can manually select all heights (except "extended high")
hope this helps
check the "owner's manual" :eek::angel:

IIRC it's over 3 minutes exceeding 80km/h from Normal to Highway mode automatically.

From Normal to Hwy high at over 80kph for 30 sec. Goes back to Standard if speed is under 55kph for 30 sec.
You can attempt to select Access high but will not go down untill car is stopped. Can be preselected 40 sec before stopping . Light will flash.
High can be selected but speed must be under 55 kph.
Its all in your owners manual or on RAVE

Just read the manual. I should be able to select 'low' ride height at any speed!
And it certainly should not go to Access while the vehicle is moving.
We've had a lot of rain down here.
Uh oh.

Have you downloaded Storey Wilson's (free) EASUnlock and checked your system out?;)

I don't believe it is possible to select 'low' or highway mode at all. It is automatically selected when the speed rises and deselected when the speed drops.
User selectable heights are access, standard, high, thats it.
The computer selects highway and extended.

TrevorHighway mode can be manually selected if the inhibit switch is 'on'. Leslie is vertically challenged so the our car stays in highway mode.

I'll echo the above, if the car is running, low height can be selected any time by pressing the inhibit switch and selecting low. To maneuver in access height (for carparks, etc) stop and put the car in park, select access height, once lowered press the inhibit switch and you will get a beep and message on the dash saying "eas manual".

Tis a long time since I read the manual, but I think that for the car to actually go into the access height, the handbrake should be on, all doors and rear hatch closed, and maybe even neutral has to be selected, possibly even the override switch needs to be locked in. Even then the car will/should automatically go up one level if you exceed about 20kmh. You may override the automatic lifting to the next level (Highway level) by unswitching the override while the car is stationary once it is down on the bump stops, and then depressing the switch once more. You'll get a beep and a message on the dash saying something about the EAS being disabled. You then get lots of excited beeps if you try and drive off and reach a predetermined speed.
I suspect that you can select the access mode at any speed, and the little red LED will flash, but the car will not settle into the lower mode unless you have slowed to an acceptable speed. Try it.
I've just re-read Keithy's post. Could've saved myself some time and just typed "What he said" . . . . . .

What a wonderful system... it really is all things to all people!
It seems everyone thinks it works differently in each mode via auto or manual selection... I'm no mathematician but I reckon based on the feedback provided there must be 1,000,000,000 different logics permutations in EAS!
What I have always thought is a little off the mark from reading all this, I am truely curious now...
So who has the facts?

What I said is the short version of the owners manual! I have to use the access height method daily to fit my p38 into the garage. Handbrake not required to lower the car, just chuck it in park, I never use the handbrake on flat ground!
