The change lever on my 96 auto disco gets very hot to touch. Have checked all of the possiable sources, no joy. Does the auto box run that hot normally. It is serviced regulary.

Very hot to touch is about 40-50C, seeing the trans is probably 90-100C.
This is quite normal.
