Mounting a Front Runner roof rack to a USA D90, NAS version

The 2 meter roof rack has a mounting problem due to the factory external roll bar on the forward cab of the D90. The rack comes with 6 mounting legs (225mm) clamping onto the rain gutter. The standard mounting legs, the 2 in the front, interfere with the roll bar.

Know of any solutions?

Not seen the rack/mountings but what about modding the front mount feet to clamp onto the roll bar, using something like Axia Alloys Billet Female Universal Cage Mount (http://www.tmwoffroad.com/product.sc?productId=489) or Roll Bar (http://fourtreks.com/roll_bar.html)

Best check with them on the strenght of them before you buy ;)

Not yet. Front Runner did send me a set of front legs for an LR3/4, but I have yet to try fitting them to the NAS (north american standard) roll bar which is 1.75 inches diameter. Whether using the standard 225mm mounting legs OR the LR3/4 front legs (the legs for the front of the LR3.4 are longer than the others for this rack). Which ever of the 2 legs I use will require some type of clamp to attach the leg to the NAS roll bar. The rack itself is fabulous with it's accessory mounting system. I'll figure it out and the Slim line rack is the way to go.

how bout moving the front two legs back one spot (i.e. onto the next cross rail)

i did this on the rear left on my rack to accommodate the awning, i have had no problems with the overhang not being supported

Any of the roll bar / roof rack combos I've seen at home, the external roll bar will have tabs welded to it to bolt the roof rack to directly. Seeing as welding and repainting isn't an option for you, how about taking the front legs off the roofrack entirely, attaching a couple of UHF antenna brackets for the roll bar, such as shown in the photo below...

...and bolting the front or the roofrack directly to the brackets. Shouldn't be too hard to fabricate a bracket up....

You could cut the legs down and attach to a stauff clamp (avail from hose fittings suppliers). It would be as strong as the gutter clamp and never slide around.
