Hi all hope you are all well, As some of you might have noticed there is a lot of water around at the moment and I'm driving thru a lot, Ok in breff I drive 100ks to get to work back rds mainly don't like Hwy's anway because of lots of flooding have been taking P38 (98) model, Fri traverling at around 110ks large body of water not seen till it was to late, got thru ok water over bonnet (little) bit of splutering after, all ok,but trans wont change down from top gear when you put your foot down, will change manualy. Get into town seems ok, had to go at lunch up town starts ok but reving high(1600-1800rpm) let warm a bit into gear revs drop to 1100rpm, same when I leve work lots of water on way home couple of drownings wont change down again have to drive home manualy back to 3rd on overtaking and so on Saturday trans driving around town seems fine but still ever time I start her high rpm again. any sugestions would be greatfull.

It is possible you may have got a bit of water past your air intake. I would remove your air intake pipe work and dry it out and replace your air filter if it has been wet. Car may be having a hard time breathing ;-)

Clean your MAF (with MAF spray-cleaner) while your doing the dry out check... Also, get underneath and check all the elec connections you can see. The impact with the water may have dislodged something or water could even have been forced into a connector. Suggest open them up have a look and spray with contact cleaner. This may not fix the problem but its worthwhile eliminating from your list of possibles. I have only ever had slow kickdown on mrs cruiser and they have an adjuster. Not sure if p38 box has this function?

x 2...the MAF is particularly sensitive.

It is in the first section of intake piping. It's an airflow meter and vital to the tune of your engine! Got RAVE?

Follow the air intake pipe from the filter box to the inlet manifold.
The Mass Air Flow sensor* is the doovalacky with electrical wires connected to it about half way along said pipe. Carefully unplug the wiring connector then remove the MAF by loosening the large "jubilee" clips and removing the section from the inlet pipe....
good luck
Remember the old saying: "I don't drive through flooded roads"

MAF lives here

pics of removing and cleaning it, but no narration yet at MAF Clean (http://paulp38a.com/gallery/v/99RR/maf_clean/)
Isopropyl Alcohol spray is your friend when it comes to cleaning the MAF.
Cheers, Paul.

No need to take all the housing off, just remove the two screws holding the maf into the housing. These are security screws so can be a pig if you dont have the right bit. Spray your CRC cleaner into the Airflow orifices a couple of times. There are wires within that need the clean. Replace security screws with normal self tappers for easy removal next time
