Hi,

I'm investigating the aftermarket units for the D4 and was wondering if anyone knows where is the factory microphone for the handsfree kit located?

Thanks!

Not certain, but I thought it was where the map lights are?

Les.

Yep, up the top where the map lights are, absolutely the worst place for it too, the wind noise from the roof makes it almost impossible for the incoming caller to hear anything you say.

I'm pretty sure Phil(Discowhite) put some insulation foam up there to insulate the mic from the roof(there is no isulation up there at all:eek:

I've never had any comments from people about noise but don't have a roof rack which could be the cause.

I agree with Graeme,

I use my phone almost every day in the car & others say it's VERY good.
Roof rack or sunroof, perhaps windows down(the climate control is so good my windows aren't down too often!).

Les.

Maybe the 3.0l SE is insulated up there and old basic 2.7l isn't:(

By the way Graeme, how's it going down your way, your area OK:confused:

Hi Baz, the hands-free on my D4 3.0 is really good, to the point where people are surprised that I am driving.
Not sure whether the 2.7 is less insulated......maybe?

I do know that Toyotas handsfree is carp. Know quite a few and it gets annoying having to yell into the phone.

Cheers, Craig.

Thanks all for the replies. OK, so now I have potentially 2 reasons to get into the map light area:

1) To install a 2nd microphone if I were to purchase the aftermarket touchscreen unit (that has a separate bluetooth module)

or

2) If I skip the whole aftermarket touchscreen, and just install a mirror monitor, then I need to get the wiring up there.

Are there any instructions on the best way to get wires into that part?

Cheers,
Edwin.

Do you know where the wires are behind the radio?

Do you know where the wires are behind the radio?

What are you attempting to do?

Having just been through this, would like to understand your intention to respond in more detail.

Not really, probably in amongst the 1000 other wires in there, I'm assuming your talking about the radio/CD in the middle of the dash.

10yrs is a while ago, I'm lucky if I remember what I did yesterday[bighmmm]

The wires you want to tap into don’t go to the radio.
They go to the rhr quarter panel to the BT module, from there an output signal heads forward to the main stereo module.

So if the BT module at the rear is sending the signal back to the factory head unit, which wires are connecting to the BT module from the head unit?

Different signal - And the factory microphone wont work with aftermarket head units either - been through all of this.

Instead I ran the new mic cabling up to the factory location and then fitted the new microphone into the roof console.
