Recently I posted thread about my fuel gauge and the instulation of a redarc remote breke controler and thought the controler was causing problems. after getting it fitted by an auto sparky and the instrument cluster re programed by local dealer every thing worked well until on a trip from Darwin to Ballarat last month when about 100ks north of Tennant Creek the fuel was showing just under half when suddenly the fuel warning came on , the trip computer distance remaining wound back to zero and decided that the tank was empty and shut the engine off .Slight panic but turned off iginition and hoped it would re set , it did for a while and then done it again ,managed to grt another 50 k before it would not reset its self .I was carring 40 ltr of fuel and put that in tank and every thing ok again . Contacted LR road side assist and told that they would transport vechicle to nearest dealer as it is still under warranty ,nearest dealer Alice Springs 500k not a problem . I explained that I thought I could keep going and cleared that this would not void warranty and got through to Ballarat using 300k fuel range. Contacted nearest dealer and explained problem and told this is a problem with FL2 but not common and fuel tank sensors need to be replaced ,they checked sensors then booked in for repairs two days later, all fixed no charge and no worries with gauge on trip along Murray River and back to Darwin

follow up #2.
after geting the dealer to solve the fuel guage problem, I went to start up last night and I only get a couple of clicks in the steering column and an error message on the display :"Steering column locked"...and nothong else.

my ultra urgent question now is, how do I get an auto transmission out of park without starting the engine ?

A few forums talk about accessing the solenoid but not specifically for a FL2.

any advice on how to take an auto out of park without starting the engine, as I need to get it on a flat top now and back to the dealer for another warranty job.
cheers

Have you tried taking the weight off the steering lock. Remember in old cars with a steering lock you needed to take the weight off the lock so you could turn the key? The FL2 is the same in concept. Give it a try I've had it once or twice on mine and it's always worked. It happens when the wheels are turned and forcing back on the lock in the steering column so a slight movement of the steering wheel could solve the problem.

My wife has a MY2009 Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4 eco. She has recently noticed that the rule gauge is going a bit haywire. It registers half a tank, then a moment later it will read nothing, with the fuel light coming on indicating no fuel. She knows there is fuel in it, as she had recently filled up. Moments later, the gauge will return to the normal reading and the light will go out. She originally purchased this vehicle when it was 18 months old, and had a similar issue with it then. Because it was still in warranty, she took it to LR who, apparently changed the computer. There were no further issues, until now. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be please? Could really do without the expense of a thorough investigation and/or auto electrician looking into it, if we can solve the problem on here (kind of). Is it likely to be the fuel sender unit, could it be as simple as updating the software or will it be the computer again? If the latter, how long does this item stay in warranty when fitted by LR Australia? Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I had a similar problem. Filled up in Broken Hill, next morning the gouge shows less than half empty. Lucky for me it righted itself.

stu.baugh I posted the original post on this problem and as you may have read the problem has been fixed and has not cause any more problems . Recently I subscribed to the topix web site and the problem is well documented and instructions are given on how to test for the fault as there are a couple of things that may cause this fault . the dealers are first told to upgrade the software and if this does not cure the problem they advise to check the terminals on the fuel tank sender . sorry I dont have the exact details as my sub has expired ,it will cost you about $35 (I think) for one months subscription and is well worth it as it gives you all the information about your vechicle and all info on the model . Also some where on this fourm is a diagram of the fuel tank sender with suggestions of how to repair .

Thanks for the tip.

Yesterday my gauge dropped from full to half in a few minutes. Thought I had a leak but a check of the underside ruled that out.

Today I did a check of the resistence of the sender units and it all read within tolerance. Disconnected the battery and after reconnection, all was good with gauge looking like it is working again.

Fingers crossed.
