Hi All

Having some trouble with iTunes shutting down on start up and thought I'd try something different to manage my music collection. PC is running Windows 7 and library is at present about 40Gb and stored on a NAS.

I really want something that will update tags & artwork as well as sync to my iPod. What's everyone using?

I have to date tried Media Monkey & Music Bee and not real happy with either. Is anyone still using Winamp?

And yes Linux fans I am a part time Ubuntu user and I know there are options there but would prefer this running in Windows.

An no Mac fans I don't want to buy a whole new computer to achieve this goal.

Thanks

I use Media Monkey on win7, mainly use it to scrape media info cover art etc which i then play thru xbmc on a modded xbox, it also has an itunes plugin not that i use it.

Are you accessing the NAS over a wireless LAN?

iTunes is rock solid normally and 40Gb is nothing for a library.

If its only 40gb, I there a reason it's sat on a NAS and not directly on the pc?

I suspect the issue is the fact that iTunes and the library are not on the same machine. Either the network link is not fast enough or the NAS cant supply the data quick enough.

The issue is not iTunes.

Possibly a corrupted preference file or similar.

Apple have some hints on fixing this kind of issue:

iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US)

Thanks for the replies. Music is on the NAS so it can be accessed by all the PC's & the network media player. Local install of itunes or similiar is to clean up tags & artwork. Network is Wifi N and itunes was working OK till the last update.

I had tried a bit of the info in that link Offtrack but I got jack of trying different things and thought I'd start afresh. Really liked music bee but its method of syncing to the ipod involved copying all of the files to my Temp file on C: which then ran out of space & killed the sync.

Any other software options?

I use GNUMP3d [GNU MP3/Media Streamer] - About GNUMP3d - GNU Project - Free Software Foundation(FSF) (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnump3d/) on a linux VM this acts as the Libary and I just use a web browser to load a playlist from it into winamp or whatever player I happen to have access too.

This allows me to stream my music from home to just about anywhere I want.
