Just spent a week up at Forster on the mid north coast of NSW and did some fishing in shallow water for snapper.

The locals told me to look for the Bonito and when the sounder is chock a block full from top to bottom with them anchor up and float down unwieighted pillies and bonito strips down a burley trail. Water depth was only between 9 and 15 metres with hard reef bottom

Day 1 plenty of small ones before the sharks moved in and smashed all the baits.

Day 2 bingo nailed a good fish in the first hour before the grey suited razor gang moved in again.

Really hard fight and thought he had me on the reef a couple of times but managed to get him to the boat and net.

The wind blew us out the next few days but managed to get out and fish a few more reefs for the usual mixed bag.

I will have to get back up there in the next couple of weeks - if it ever stops raining and blowing southerly every day!!!!!

Nice fish there Chenz!

Always a heart in the mouth tussle fishing for them in shallow water. I'll have to try the Bonnie/Snapper connection as they can be in plague proportions here as well.

Must be a few around at the moment, I got a couple yesterday afternoon in a short hour long session on plastics in 35 metres.

Been using the 5" Damiki stickbaits of late and they are producing as good as any I've used and are better value for money. ;)

They went 5kg and 7.5kg, and the larger one snapped the 5/0 nitro jig hook just as he was in the landing net...
