Phone scam?

Missus fires up a old phone that has been idle for some time. Did this late last night. Checks on the computer regard billing with this phone today and finds that there is already $300 worth of internet used. :eek: :mad: Now the boss rings the company and they basically say harden up and pay. There is $150 credit with the plan but that still leave a bill. They also reckon they can`t tell what the phone was connected too, which I`m fairly sure is bull poo . This also happened with another company and another phone. They realised there was a problem ( we were complaining and would not go away ) but would only reduce the bill by a small amount.

If it was an Iphone and had location services enabled and a SIM in it , the phone would be using data until the battery went flat.

Nope not a I phone. Just a normal touch screen phone. Was on only for less than 12 hours with no one using it. Must of had the internet enabled , but no one had log on.

I was also going to say vodafail as i got a huge data bill and after a few calls to their CS i got the full amount credited and then i switched carriers.

It appears that the phone was a unit delivered to us as a promotional offer to continue the plan. Looks to me like a bit of a set up. Supply the phone that is set to connect immediately once it turns on and racks up a large bill before you notice. Noice one :mad: Apparently it is a hard phone to navigate through the menus, which is why it was not used for some time. One of the current phones in use here passed away and this one was fired up as replacement, not now though.

I had a similar problem recently with a new phone and that network. Month after month there were daily internet charges and I didn't use it. Long story short is that the phone does 'stuff' in the background connecting with the net without the user knowing.

Long story short is I got a credit but couldn't turn the net off at the phone so I had Vodaphone turn the net off at their end.

Had the same problem with voda a few years ago told them we wouldnt pay bill untill they could tell us what it was for they eventually cancelled the bill without telling us what we were connected to on the internet:(

I notice you are in Belgrave Heights, that was always a black spot for signals with voda phone. Often when you sign up on deals, they include promotional stuff, if you don't want it it's up to the user to cancel the service extras other wise you keep getting charged.
Mobile phones are the biggest industry rip off and there's always people willing to commit then selves with the latest and greatest. Go to any shopping centre and people are queuing for "please rip me off and take my money"
