Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking at winches to go on my defender 110.
I'm weighing up between buying a cheap warn off ebay and then rebuilding it myself, and buying a new super cheap/aldi winch.

Im asking what would be a better option, financially they'd be pretty much the same, weight ratings would be fairly similar.
The main question, is it worth rebuilding a warn? Or are they pretty much replacement units anyway?
Cheers,
Joe

I have a spare Warn 9500 lb 4 years old US made if you are interested . Bought a 2 nd hand bull bar for my defer and the winch came with it. Had my own winch.

I would recommend rebuilding the Warn over even considering buying some "super cheap" crap. These winches are not too difficult to work on and there are some manuals available for download in the "Files"-section. As always, quality has its price tag...

Rebuild the warn....then you know what you got. There is a manual available on the net and parts can be sourced from Performance Offroad at Woolloongabba. My front 9000 was bought second hand in pieces. Stripped it down and rebuilt it with new grease as per the manual, bought a new motor, and sealed it up to make it waterproof.

I am now considering another winch for the rear. So I am in the market for another second warn 9000.

Cheers
