Great achievement but highlights the need for a proper vehicle for the terrain - would never have made it past Big Red without a tow. Also highlights that 4wd is less important than ground clearance. I likes the way that the film does not hide the deficiencies of the vehicle nor the help it was given.

Evan Green and "Gelignite" Jack Murray did something similar back in the late 60s in a Morris Mini and an Austin 1800... The beauty of the Austin 1800 was that they were able to pump up the hydrolastic suspension to get the required ground clearance. They were both very capable land crabs with winter tread tyres fitted. The cars that is...not Green and Murray!;)

From memory, there's a picture of a Kingswood on the wall in the Birdsville Pub that climbed Big Red unaided. So how impressive is it to drag a mini up? Not very IMO. Then to continue to drag it across the Simpson Desert strikes me as completely pointless and a waste of time.
Now, if they'd lifted the suspension/body, got rid of the ridiculous tyres and improved the cooling system the vehicle may have completed the journey unaided. Now that would have been an achievement.
As it stands............Yawn.
