View Full Version : Removing Wheel lock nuts on D2

I tried to remove the front wheel on the D2 with alloys.
Using the special wheel nut key, it slipped and chewed off a corner of the lock nut. It is so tight and won't budge.
I notice there is a threaded hole in the centre of the lock nut. I was wondering if screwing a bolt into it and trying a socket. I reckon once removed I may replace it with a normal wheel nut, I would hate to be stuck with a flat out yonder and not be able to remove the wheel.
Any ideas?

Yeh get rid of them, more hassle than they're worth. A cold chisel will get it off as a last resort.

Yep,one of the first things i did when i got the D2,was got rid of em all. There is one on the spare as well,it is usually not as tight as the road wheel though.
Glad the D4 does not have em,although the Puma does.

I have had the pleasure of removing two lock nuts with a cold chisel. I am now lock nut free, even on the spare.:D:D:D

Start with a couple of hits square on the end of the nut to help break the grip on the threads. Then use the slot in the lock nut too locate the cold chisel and tap away at a 45 degree angle. It will move...

Or remove the locknuts annually to exercise the thread, apply grease or anti-seize compound to the thread and washer. The problem will go away... Only 15mins and dont forget the spare :)
