I have lost my Talas while in NZ, could only be from under use as its normally left in the one setting '130mm' all the time, others would say Talas can be a little unreliable as well.
dropped the forks into a bike shop yesterday with the hope its a quick fix........if not i have two options
replace the Talas unit or
convert to float
keep in mind that i do not have lockout which makes me think keeping Talas would be handy as i can compress the front to 100mm for climbing
coverting to float is the cheaper option

I have TALAS on my Reign, they've never worked all that well, i keep them in the 130mm travel, then lock it out for climbing, the only time i use the 100mm travel and kept it there was for racing,
I do'nt think it's a huge benefit to be honest,

I've had TALAS 32 RLCs on my Santa Cruz Chameleon for three years. The travel adjustment failed twice early on. The first time the Fox distributor fixed it under warranty. The second time I just fixed it myself because it took way too long for the distributor to do it the first time. Mine are the 100 - 140mm version and I nearly always run 100mm, and only go to 120mm for big descents or drops; never 140mm as it shifts too much weight rearwards on a hardtail. I like them, although I'm thinking of switching to a set of Fox 831 (the DJ/4X fork) for extra strength and stiffness, and little weight saving.
Weeds, Ash at High Gear Racing should have the issue sorted (he's a Fox fork guru). I can't remember exactly how I fixed it (because I drink too much beer), but if I opened up the air side leg it would come back to me. The instructions I used are on this link (http://service.foxracingshox.com/consumers/index.htm) below, but you'll need to select Service\Forks\Spring Service 32mm (or 36) TALAS III and scroll about a third of the way down to the "TALAS III Outer Tube: Disassembly" section. I'm pretty sure yours are the year before mine (so TALAS II) but the literature for the II doesn't include this section, which has a note saying "The following sub-procedure is only necessary if you suspect TALAS adjuster tube issues, such as travel steps not properly adjusting or evidence of travel creep." If you scroll down to about three quarters of the page there is a picture of the stepped adjuster, to give you some idea of how it works.

The shop has moved about three along to where the post office was. Same complex, almost next to BiLo now.

Might be a bit late by now, but I had this discussion with the guys at NSDynamics a little while ago. They serviced my Talas fork but left the Talas adjuster alone as I don't use it. Apparently they are not the most reliable unit and, on my bike, the assembly is just a passenger.
Although my head tube is a straight bore set up for a 1 1/8 steerer tube, it is designed to take a zero stack headset so it's a pretty big diameter. This means I can buy a Cane Creek adapter to allow the use of a tapered steerer tube. So if I get another fork, it will be tapered tube, bigger axle, non-adjustable travel with lockout.

Tapered steer tube and 15mm QR seems to have become almost the standard on XC and trail bikes very quickly. You kind of have to follow these trends otherwise part compatibility becomes a problem down the line ;). It's good that you have the option for tapered with your frame Dave.
