One of my coil packs died on my range rover. I ordered one off epay last week and it's the wrong part.
I cross referenced the stock part number 0221503407 and came across a part number for a Kia sportage.
I found one at the local napa store. $61 out the door with a 3 year warranty.
Specs for part. 1995 Kia sportage. Single overhead cam motor.

Same as the D2 Thor yes?
i believe the Thor and Bosch are the same engine. i just call it Bosch because of the engine management system.
Also the coil is used on a BMW 1200cc Motorcycle. I can't remember the model though.
Lots of applications for this coil.
I drove it around today with the new coil. I can hardly tell the engine is on. Its incredibly smooth. Before i could feel the engine missing and it was running really rough. gas mileage is back up as well. I might get another coil and replace the other old one as well. But I need to to the brakes first.

I'm doing a bit of googling, ebaying and various other searching for a new pair of coil packs for my Thor, just wondering if anyone has an opinion on Britpart coil packs? I'm a bit weary or any britpart electronics? I will probably cross-reference those part numbers listed above with the Holden dealer and Proton dealer to see what prices they can do. eBay doesn't seem to be much cheaper on coil packs, and quality is questionable!
Cheers

Yes Bosch and Thor are the same, the engine was designated the Thor and the electronics switched from Lucas to Bosch at the same time in 99

Hi mate
BritPart do seem to be a bit hit and miss in their QA dept :o
Given what a bastard of a job it is to change the coil packs, I would be looking at quality over price for those puppies !

I agree. Might give Britpart a miss on this one.

Due diligence here however the part number is one of those I dug up a couple of years back on this thread ...

Umm... I replaced the ignition coils when I did the head gasket as a pre-emptive maintenance measure. Got them through a UK online place but only discovered late in the piece that they were a Britpart. Well what the hell, I put them in, the originals showed no signs of burning or tracking so they're in the "emergency spares" box. 10,00km so far, no hint of trouble, no evidence of voltage leakage a.k.a. "Rover aurora":D in pitch black conditions... so far so good.
EDIT: externally, they appear to be virtually a clone of the originals including all the numbers etc...

I agree with you, preventative maintenance is why I'm doing mine as well.
It's a tough call, your testimonial certainly helps.
Will advise on which way I go!

Hi
The only BritPart bits I have had a problem with were a brake caliper rebuild kit and an Expansion Tank cap, which may in fact be ok.
So far my foamcell shocks are all looking fine
Thinking about it, something which is basically a coil of wire wrapped around a core is pretty unlikely to suffer from poor QA, there is not much to go wrong there except for bad insulation material which is unlikely

Good find.
Any equivalent find for alternate ignition coils for P38 GEMS engines? Perhaps from Australian vehicles - making availability easier?
Cheers,
Steve
