Hi Ean,

Lots of members have these (I'm not one of them). The opinions vary depending on usage and expectation. Most seem happy.

Have a look in this forum (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/electronic-diagnostics/) and see for yourself.

Cheers,
Iain

I have one for the D2 and another for the D3, only really used the early one on a semi regular basis on the D2 and it works a treat.

The LR specialist part supplier I bought the one for D3 that is located in Silverwater Sydney originally gave me a quote to sell just the software upgrade so I only needed one Hawkeye, once I got there they put the price up by heaps and refused to budge, so it was more cost effective to by a second one then upgrade the one I had.

If I hadn't been 3:00pm on a Friday and I had wanted it for that weekend I would have told them to jam it where the sun don't shine.

I have used it once on the D3 and it cleared all the issues no problem and it was interesting to see the injector readings at idle.

You can buy them on the web from OS for a lot cheaper then you can here if you look around.

cheers,
Terry

Gday Terry,

My father in law got me 1 from the UK whilst he was on holidays, and it arrived yesterday, got it unlocked for the D3 and plugged it in , but the car had no faults so couldn't do much... I did try and get a oil level reading on the gearbox, but could only get the temp.

I downloaded the user manual today so will have a try again tonight.

Hi Ian,

Now you have me interested, I must admit I didn't know the Hawkeye was that capable of reading information. I'll now take the time to download the manual and have a read.

Thanks for that.

cheers,
Terry

Gday Terry,

I need to learn to read the manual properly , you only use the hawkeye to get the oil temp and you check it the old fashioned way you check a diff oil level , from the filler plug.. I was wondering how they managed to get a gismo to check the level inside the box.

Cheers Ean

Hi Terry / Guy's

Just to let you know that all upgrades for Hawkeye from 2 through to version 5 (current) are free. You are only required to purchase the upgrade cable part BA 5079, current U.K retail around 17 Pounds. All upgrades are via disc and will only work on computers with operating systems XP or Vista. It is not a requirement to purchase power supply part BA 5079A you can just power the tool directly from the car using the OBD cable. My suggestion is to hook up a battery charger as the current upgrade takes around 55 mins and could drain the cars battery.

Bearmach's distributors Should not be charging for upgrades. If this is happening my suggestion is to initially mention this to distributor that it's F.O.C. If They still refuse to let have it at no charge then contact Bearmach directly reporting the situation.

I have now left Bearmach and working in the Middle East so am no longer involved with Hawkeye and it's continued development. If I can be of assistance to any of you please just shout.

Regards to you all

Does the Hawkeye just read faults and clear them, or can you also do software updates as well.

Hawkeye dependent on vehicle type application has programming ability. But is unable to write for example remaps. My suggestion is that you to view the current application list available on Bearmach's web site.

Hawkeye on all Vehicle application can:

Read / clear fault codes. show live data, force actuators, program ( with reservation) and also has the ability to drive the ABS modulator on Wabco D systems allowing full brake bleed. It also reads modules giving part numbers etc and in some cases can read stored mileage.

These functions are all available on:
Engine, Braking, chassis, transmission security and electronic parking brake systems.

I'm not sure if further development will continue. I did have another couple of upgrades planned before I left Bearmach.

Regards
Clive
