130 Sway bar meets LR fuel tank...

Hey All,

Fitting up my new (to me) Brown Davis fuel tank. Had some dramas (catalogued in the Technical section) with the hoses. Now having a problem in that the sway bar no longer fits - by a long shot.

I've been searching and note that some have removed the sway bar on their 110s - interested if anyone has done this on their 130 and what the effect has been on-road. I'm aware of the legal implications of removing the bar - has anyone got a solution via improved shocks/polyairs etc... that meets engineering requirements in NSW?

Any other advice on the matter at all?

I have a LRA tank, they provide spacers to drop the mounting point for the sway bay to clear the tank, they are fairly basic and could be made by anyone with some welding skill, they consist of 2 plates welded to some lengths of sqaure tube. I will try and take some pics of mine, mind you my sway be is currently disconnected as i snapped/lost the bolt on one end at some stage in the last week flexing it up in the bush, to be honest i dont feel a lot of difference in body roll.

I was thinking about a spacer, but it's quite a big drop - prb about 150mm. Be great to see some pics, thanks.

He said that (re) fitting the swaybar to his 120 made a big difference.

Why don't you just take the sway bar off.
My 04 110 dosent have front or rear ,
never has had from when i bought it , passed tough new Vic RWC no problems, no questions asked.

You don't need them on a Defender in my opinion, 130 may different kettle of fish ??

I saw that pic when searching on here - that looks like exactly the set-up I need. My tank is different but the angles on the sway bar look the same. I was worried that the bar wouldn't work hung that low, but on reflection it shouldn't really matter.

I have a 130 litre longrange tank on my single cab 130, it also has the spacers for the sway bar. One problem I have encountered however is when fully loaded and the suspension is flexing off road the sway bar is rubbing on the bottom of the tank. I suppose an extra half inch in the spacer would prevent this, I just have not got around to doing anything about it.

mine are the same as those pictured, mine is probobly going to "fall off" shortly i can take some better pics then, i am planning on using something like the X-deflex setup on mine instead so i can have reasonable travel keeping on road manners.

Leave it off, you'll never know the difference on a Laiden vehicle.

The commercial 110's & 90's leave the factory without them anyway!

i was supprised when i found mine had a front sway bar... mine rear one has been more of a problem them a help, quite a few times its inverted itself on one side give me a very noticable lean till i flip it back down, luckily i can just pump it up on the airbags until the sway maxes out then flip it down easily, i would hate to have to do it with coils.

Same spacers on mine also. Never worried about the lack of rear travel as I have a rear locker.

I found the same thing with mine.

akelly: I have a 130 with 3inch lift and do not run any sway bars. I don't notice any bad behaviour. It really depends on how much travel you have or are after.
