Hi everyone,

Looking into what needs to happen to put larger tyres under a 130

I know some of the associated costs - new propshaft, probably new ratios, enough spares to sink a battleship :p

Currently runnning 235/85/16s on wolf rims - I've had 255/85/16s on disco 7" rims and the turning circle was truly titanic

I'm interested in experiences of anyone who's had 35's+ on a 130 ...

With most of the larger tyres being >11 inches wide and needing wider rims, will the turning radius skyrocket?

Do you need to add significant offset, and in turn are you going to be eating wheel bearings for lunch?

I've seen it mentioned in many posts that several guys think there ideal off-road vehicle would be a 130 (+galv chassis +4bd1 +etc) and I'd definitely agree its my pick of the bunch for touring
Though for some of the more extreme stuff the ramp-over is limiting - I've never really looked at comp stuff but are there many long-wheel base competitors?

Hi. I'm running my 130 Td5 on 285/75 R16's with 25mm wider rims from the UK and a 70mm lift on the front and 40mm lift on the back. I've now made a new tray for the rear that is only 1600mm long which makes the vehicle look much less bulky. I'd post a pic on this thread but the wonders of AULRO won't let me post a pic that's on another post! God only knows why but that's the way it is!! Check out 'Defender on 285's', and I'll try and find some of the older posts if I can remember what they were called!!

Prop shaft change is only needed due to lift not tyre size.

If you fit -25 offset rims you wont rub on the radius arms, and can wind in the steering stops. You will need to fit wider flares to cover the tyres with the wider offset rims.

I know of a guy running 35's on standard gearing in a 110, it's a tuned td5 though. Depends what you want. A 200 or 300 would not be like pushing them though.

Run -25 rims and adjust steering stops.

Maybe not sure on bearing life, I run county stub axles, they have a wider bearing spacing. But who cares just change them out, ever thing is a compromise.

My last car was a 4bd1 that I fitted a turbo to, it was a very good engine. The biggest thing is mating a 5 speed to it.

I went to landcruiser mount park with a mate in a 130 and it went very well, it convinced me to get a 130, so now I have a 130 with a 3inch lift and I am very happy with it off road. I think a Nissan Patrol in just a little shorter, they are longer then a 110 but shorter than a 130 so it's not to bad really just depends what you want to do with it, but I love the 130. I want to fit 35's to mine but will fit a diff ratio of 3.8 to mine I reckon.

Well, that took some doing!! not a fan of typing URL's in!! Finally! Here is a pic of my 130 on 285 75 R16's, with a 70mm lift at the front and 40mm lift at the rear. The rims are Compomotive 16" that are a discontinued line, but they were an inch wider on the outside. I've had no probs with props, and the Td5 pulls it ok. Will be better with the chip tho! Good luck in your choice!!https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Sitec, I like your tray. Did you bud it yourself or did you get a shop to build it?

Not really a fair indication , I run 315 x 215 (35's) though with the added benefit of portals now covered 45 thou klms. Some issues that may be of benefit- No change in bearing wear or steering components. No change in turning circle. Must go to an 8 inch wide rim. I modified the Wolf rims and fitted internal bead locks during the change. Braking will be poorer for the change as you are trying to retard a greater force. Still running standard suspension with no scrub, this is due to 5 inch lift in the hub and extra 100mm width per side. Stability and handling improved.
