HI, I'VE DECIDED TO SCRUBB UP THE OLD ENGEL THAT I GOT FROM MY DAD. HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH PULLING THEM APART TO GET RID OF THE SURFACE RUST AND REPAINT?
IT'S A ENGEL MFRT 540A A4....YELLOW WITH GREEN LID AND IN BRILLANT WORKING CONDITION..

I've got one like that. It's a ripper - although a bit noisy in its old age. I wouldn't touch it. Working on the ...."If it aint broke" principle.
The dents and scratches just give it character - much like a land rover.;)

If is aint broken dont fix it.
The Engel fridges are designed to get abused and ruffed up a bit.
Plus as said earlier it was character and tells a story of its past

We have one of those old Engles,my wife decided it needed some TLC.She took off all the handles etc, sanded it back, undercoated & then painted it.
Has already got some scars from the latest camping trip.

She loves camping, they are beautiful dogs. They don't really grow up until they are around 18months though.
Probably will breed her this season, comes on around July.

Under no circumstances would I pull my old Engel apart while it continued to work perfectly. As for rust, just sidle down to Bunnings, buy some white knight rust converter, slap it on, then wait a day and slop on virtually any paint you like (be creative) and you're fine. But don't touch anything that makes the fridge operate. Leave well enough alone. That's my advice.
