alternator bush proofing

was in the newsagent to day looking at magazines, a sealed four wheel drive mag had an article how to 'bush proof' your alternator. Being to cheap to buy a non landrover mag, does anyone have tips or ideas for bush proofing the alternator?

Carry a brand new spare in the back wrapped in cloth and plastic, Murphy's Law (adendum) states that what breaks is the item you don't have replacement parts for.:D

Sealed alternators have been around for ever. Motorola and Niehoff come to mind.

great idea if you dont mind the thermal cut out cutting in on a good quality alternator or the insulation and diodes failing from cookery on a cheap unit.
