G'day.
I watched a 4x4 Action DVD last night.
For once it was fairly interesting, they recovered an upside down Disco in
the Vic high country and the video did not have roothy raving with that moronic crap on his radio. Jeese, who would want to own a radio and be anywhere within range of that fellow.
Anyway , to the point. A bloke was talking about filtering drinking water in the scrub.
He demmo'd a blue thingy that looked like a jerry can. Had a pump to pressurise ( like a garden weed spray ) and a tap containing a filter. It looked ideal for extended outback travel.
I want one !!
Does anyone know what brand and who sells the things ?
Tah.
Love those GU's.
Robert.

I know they're smaller, but you could be better off with one of these, especially if you have giardia, etc. in the region.

I saw it on here.
Portable water purifiers and filters for hiking, trekking, travelling (http://www.litekamper.com/water_purifiers.htm)
Not to say that the one in the photos is not any good, but I have seen some that promise much and don't deliver.
Rugged Guide's video is interesting.

I see we are still considered an at risk country by the Yanks because they wont allow export (via Amazon at any rate) of the high filtration version of the Sawyers which reputedly screens out viruses as well (0.2 microns filtration)

Thank you all.
I will order one of those Lifesaver jerries.
I already have a setup using a water pump ( now dead so put in the bin ),
using food grade hose and a B.E.S.T. filter. Just had to drop it into the water source. Worked fine as long as the pump worked and I could get the truck close enough to that source. I really prefer not to rely to much on electrics.
As an aside, an axe will always start first go.. In the video I mentioned, they came across a fallen tree and their chainsaw's were to small to cut it so they built a ramp and drove over it. That worked but could have done damage below the vehicles. I would have axed the thing, problem solved for all following. But I suppose that if they had used an axe with their lilly whites, they would need a week off work to recover.
I like the idea of the jerry thingy because you can fill it with a billy, bucket', pump or an empty SPC ( made in Australia ) beans can.
A spare filter can be carried in the spares box.
No harm in taking simple precautions with ones health. I dont travel in convoy or own a radio. I havent done a perish yet and dont expect to, but as I am getting on I may consider a Sat phone in future sometime.
I wouldn't get far with a broken hip, eh.
Cheers.
Robert.
