we are resting bush walkers at present so I understand keeping it light or having two uses it possible.
I put mine over the bridge with it expedition kit on the other day and bugger me we toped out at 3300kg ish, GVM is 3500.
I don't think you will find many vehicles not close to GVM for a long trip. If your under than all good I think, it's when you 300 or 400 over start to worry.

Not to worry you but that sounds light!:eek: Some peoples defenders are close to that empty(bull bar, winch ,lights , roof rack, bigger tyres/wheels, sliders, fridge, storage gear etc.) and as you still have about 500kg lee way put in those few extras to make life easier on the trip that you could /would not carry as a backpacker.

You're kidding!! i WISH, WISH that more people would load as light as that.
Enjoy your trip and laugh at those overloaded 200 Series cruisers as you pass them at the fuel station and the repair shop...:)

My Tdi is 2.1 empty so 2.4 is very good,my goal with the puma is all towards wieght reduction,no steel and no wieght above the center line. Pat

yep its gotta all be low low`low.  the highest weight in mine is at the height of a jerry can in the rear{cept for oztent diagonaly over storage unit and swag  that sits over the rear ply  shelf..eg at the height of the rear seats}
i ended up storing all the tools shovels jacks etc under a ply cover over the rear foot well with fridge ontop

To scaredo take my 130 over a way bridge.
A few years ago when it was fat bedded out of where we were I guessed to the truck driver that he was looking at 3 to 3.5 t with all the gear and full tanks. Driver seamed a little scared at that point as he had already loaded it.

What's the difference between packing for 1 month vs 4 months? I carry the exact same stuff for both length trips generally......

Actually there isn't much difference between what I pack for a day trip/weekender compared to longer trips, as it's just as dangerous breaking down regardless of how many days you are away from home.

The trouble is people need to take everything but the kitchen sink nowdays,the rigs that come through here need a HR ticket to drive them. Pat
