Someone on the Whirlpool forum started a thread "Horning innocent pedestrians" by which he meant blowing the horn at...

Another chap noted "honking" was the correct word, not "horning" - to which he responded:

I considered it, but the word seemed too childish. So I went with horning and if it's not already a word, well then call me Shakespeare. You know what I mean by it anyway.

I replied:

Hmm, I'll have to remember that. If the correct word is "childish", invent a new one that sounds even more stupid.

We both got our posts deleted for being off-topic. :D

The WP Mods do a lot of post deletions.

Yes,

It's been the talk around the traps that the Whilpool forum is spinning out of control!

I would have thought just the title "horning innocent pedestrians" would have been enough to get it deleted!

Surely the correct title should have been,
"Activating the factory installed, vehicle mounted warning device in the direction of apparently innocent persons perambulating in the area" ?

Off topic but a quick question, why is a hyphen required between the words "off-topic" in your post? Are they not words that 'stand' on their own and are being used in correct context?

I don't understand it's use (the hyphen) in this example.

Digger,
You don't need to use an apostrophe in 'it's' in this case. 'Its' is fine.
It's would be short for 'it is'.
Cheers.

Attention: Tom,

You have got to be joking, as you can see I have used the correct Attention: to let you know I am about to open dialogue with you, I find it insulting that you would write simply 'digger' and then proceed to your message, your post should be deleted.

I second that notion, instead you could try 'refreshingly different', or, if you would like to deliver quite the insult try 'interestingly different'

Mate it is all a joke, if we was serious about writing in correct english you will see that , 80% of the Australians born do not are able to write correctly and this includes the young generation that have finished year 10.

If you like I can make the effort to write all my post in MS word but then again they will be not spontaneous and in "cold blood"

Arthur, I have no issue with your English. Your command of it is superior to that of many Australian-born people. Like many watchers of Fawlty Towers, my command of Spanish is limited to "¿Qué?".

No. If we remove the bit between the commas from my sentence, it would still make sense. Your way wouldn't.

That is:

"I didn't see them all as I thought most of the episodes were asinine rather than funny." is OK

"I didn't see them all I thought most of the episodes were asinine rather than funny." isn't. It would need a full stop after "all".

I'm willing to be corrected as English was my worst subject at high school.

If that is true, then something miraculous must have happened at higher school! ;)

Many years ago, I worked for a Polish-born engineer whose English, both spoken and written, was excellent. Any letters or telexes (this was pre-email) written for the section in which we worked had to be approved and signed off by him before they could be sent. Many of mine had to be retyped (by the typing pool) after he had corrected them. Eventually, he needed to make very few corrections.

His names was George Kennedy and he also instructed in electronics at North Sydney Tech. He wrote a book, Electronic Communications Systems, which was one of the required textbooks.
