Hi All
can anyone identify this style of Rim with the raised area running through the stud holes and are stamped AYG 8038 ?
I have 2 that are surplus to my requirements

It's a SIII ROH pressed rim. Not sure if it's the 5" rim for the 88" or the 5.5" rim for the 109" models.
Definately not series 1.

Learning all the time. ;)

Didn't know they did these in 5" too. My Stage 1 was equipped with these, (5 1/2") so assumed they were on late models.

Thanks guys
Will get the tyres off and check out whether they are 5 or 5.5
What's the go with the bar tread tyres these days...certainly dont see them as a daily use tyre when I get the vehicle rebuilt but I guess for authenticity and if you have a spare set of rims they might be worth keeping ?
cheers

cheersYou can still get bar tread, mostly Chinese and Indian MRF, although you can get Firestone out of the US from specialty tyre suppliers at a price.
Depending upon which model Series 1 you have, will depend upon what pattern and make of tyre were options on it. The very early 80" had Dunlop T28, then later Dunlop and Olympic NDT (bar tread - especially SMHEA used bars) then Olympic "All Purpose Lug" and Dunlop "Road Track Major" were alternatives to the NDT.
It is possible to get Chinese made "lug" tyres, but for safety, most people go for available patterns in off road tyres. Remember if you are only going to use the vehicle occasionally, bias or cross ply tyres don't have the same problem of de-lamination that steel belted tyres have when the belt rusts from sitting in the one place too long.

this quote:
The AYG8038s (also labelled ROH Australia) I have are definitely the original equipment of the 1981 S3 I have the remains of. The Series 3 parts book, however lists NRC7578 as the wheel for the 109. This is the wheel fitted to my 110, and seems to be the standard 110 wheel. (Don't have a 110 parts book) The AYG8038 is listed neither in the S3 book, the S2a book or the optional equipment book. My guess is that it is a special number for a slightly different Australian made wheel.

Thanks digger!
ROH* are Australian manufactured rims, that usually don't find their way into UK published Land Rover manuals.
You can sometimes find reference to the part number in the numeric only, Australian Specification section at the rear of the parts manuals.

* ROH = Rubery Owen Holdings, previously Rubery Owen and Kemsley (ROK) an Australian subsidiary of the UK engineering conglomerate Rubery Owen and has been manufacturing Land Rover and other wheels in Australia since the 1950s.

If your '53 is a late 3666 prefix then it could get away with ROK 231601 rims, you can't tell the manufacture date of a ROK rim with the tyre fitted. Earlier vehicles had UK manufactured rims which have the date stamp on the outside. (Except 4 1/2" 1948 rims, which have nothing.)

Thanks LOTZ-A
I have 5 x ROK 231601 so well covered there !
I could be looking for a 5th 272309 as a spare for the 1957 86" that I have at some point

cheersThe 272309 rim is a SII/SIIa 109" rim (for 7.50 tyres) althoug the AYG rims you have are equivalent, but need longer studs.
