Any change after EGR removal ?

Gday All,

For those who have done the EGR blanking, I am wondering if you noticed much difference in the car.

I done mine 08 TDV6, and so far ( its only done 250kms since blanked off ) the only real noticable difference is the gear changing. The car seems to be more likely to kick down than it used to , and seems to hold the gear longer, with a more smoother change.

I dont drive the car all the time, but SWMBO , who had no idea what I did, bar me telling her I cleaned out the air intake filter , has commented the car drives abit better...whatever that means in SWMBO talk..

Anyway am interested what others have found.

When I did my TD5 it made the engine crisper, mostly when using light throttle. I look forward to the day when the 3.0 gets done.

In theory at least, blanking serviceable EGRs should not make any difference to vehicle performance. The EGRs remain closed in most driving conditions (same as having them blanked) except on trailing throttle when they open to feed exhaust gas into the combustion chambers to reduce polluting gases and on trailing throttle you are not asking the engine to perform.

So if your EGRs were/are OK there should be no change - however cleaning out all the inlet plumbing may very well allow the engine to breath just that little better.

Once you blank off your EGR valves it's a good idea to do, I used electrical contact cleaner to clean mine. Just do not poke anything down to hole as you will most likely damage the sensor.

Did the EGR blanking make a difference, no because my EGR valves where working fine.But I did it to stop any later issues when I didn't want to happen!
Did the MAP sensor cleaning help, yes I think it helped my fuel economy slightly.

EGR does most of its anti-polution work on light throttle, ie when cruising.

I think the older , (well the more K;s)the more build up in the inlet tract, removal 0f the butterfly )and hope you cleaned out the Aftercooler ), the more oil in the aftercoolerthe more difference you will feel it makes.If these guys could only see the amount of build up in the Y-piece then they wouldnt think twice about removing the EGR system !

I never cleaned the after cooler as I wasnt 100% sure the EGR removal on my 08 would work, I did clean out the Y piece and it was gunked up for an engine with only 80,000 on the clock.
Any tips on how you can clean the aftercooler in situ, or is it a removal jobbie..

N0 need to remove anything other than the two side covers and the worm drives that hold the hoses on the cooler.Remove main intercooler hose Drivers side,at the lower and upper aftercooler connection (this is the long one that usually splits if you dont keep an eye on it .)Looks like this. Remember to go back and re-tighten all the hose clips after 500K

notice how much oily stuff is allready there!
Take top off and twist 90 degreess ,reattach botton and poor into top of hose about 1 litre of 50% CT18 truckwash.with passenger side hose removed at lower intercooler ,Flush through until clear. Give an hour to dry out .Reconnect .replace hoses correctly and replace corner acess guards.
