Anyone know a good, easy to use polish?

It's about time old Beryll, my 93 Defender had a bit of a polish. I met an old bloke in a servo one day with the shiniest series 3 I ever seen in my life and he said he'd been polishing his vehicle since new with a rag dunked lightly in petrol! All advice I've had since tells me definitely don't do this. Maybe his vehicle was enamel and it was ok. Not sure what the original paint on mine is. Anyway, anytime I polish a vehicle it's ridiculously hard to get the polish off and takes forever. I've tried Mothers, turtle etc. Anyone have any tips?

Knew an old bloke in Townsville always washed his car with 10% turps. In the bucket- not in him. Car looked great. Easy to take off insects and tar.

My old man reckons they used to use Kero as it contains so much Parrafin

Old timer (many years ago) told me to add kero to the final rinse bucket. around a cupful

Google detailing and polish, there are web sites dedicated to what to use and how to use it.

Best ever tip? Use a random orbital sander (I am deadly serious) with velcro attachment and buy foam polishing pads to apply your choice of polish or cutting compound.

There's a lot to be said for rubbing down with car with the special clay that spray painters use to remove surface contamination. Glide your hand across the panel, you'll feel why you should do this, then rub it with the clay and you may be surprised at the difference.

Follow with a fine cutting compound if you need to, then a swirl remover and then a good quality polish. Don't neglect the obvious - work spotlessly clean, only when the panels are cool, in the shade. Remember that a Beer in the hand is worth two in the bush. Don't expect your children to understand or to assist you, if that happens give thanks, praise and maybe lots of money.

If youre prepared to do a little....ie only a couple of hours work, then any leading brand of paste type carnuba wax will give you a result you'll be proud of for a long time. I personally use Turtle Paste Wax .....about once a year....if that. Just follow the directions.....dont short cut...dont be lazy....it'll be worth it.

Me personally i use Mothers products and i used some of the other leading brands but always came back to Mothers.
Try getting a showtime pack with the clay bar included.
Now the best advice i can give ya is wash your car in rain water(we've got 3 tanks behind the shed) take it for a spin around the block and dry it off a bit now park it in the shade.
Now settle in for the next few hours with the clay bar and detail kit and dont forget the 6pack of frothies.
You should have it all done with in a few hours and i can tell you your arms are going to feel like there goin to fall off!!:p:p
But its worth it!!

I find the Turtle Wax - "Scratch And Swirl Remover" is a very easy to use polish, gives a good gloss finish and does remove any tiny scratch marks :)

I've never used it on a landrover though, I normally use WD40 or degreaser and buff it up :D

x2 Yep I use mothers as well after getting a recommendation from tombie years ago..

The stuff is brilliant but you do have to spend the time getting it there. the only Other thing I would say is on the darker cars if your not diligent you will find polish on the car for weeks.

I have not dramas polishing the disco but when I have done the defender the defender was showing up polish weeks later I have no idea why they are both pretty much the same colour..I put it down to more nooks and cranys in the defender....

although funny in the defender I never got polish stuck in the door gaps:D

Oh well, got up early this morning and got stuck onto it. Used the old faithful turtle wax. Was amazed how easy it was to use and I think the fact the car had some dew on it helped. Looked a million dollars! I used some WD40 on the grill and plastic wheel arch guards and it looks fantastic too, remains to be seen of they stay that way
