Hi all.

I had to remove the a/c unit from under the dash today. The seals that were in the pipe work at the bulk head were green. I replaced them with ones that I had in a kit I bought some time ago that are normal black ones.. But I seem to remember that the new PAG oil might be harsh on seals. Without wanting to answer my own question, doe anyone know if I should order up the correct seals before re-gassing?

Cheers,

Nino

The green ones are HNBR, you really need them for R134a use.

They have a slighter wider temp range over normal NBR and a slightly wider chemical resistance.

Remember to use a small amount of refrigeration oil on the new ones when installing, and everything has to be scrupulously clean and get some nitrogen in quickly to pressure test and the vac pump on quickly afterwards.

PAG oils do not like moisture.

after market orings are normally green.Jay air, denso etc.
often they are also black.

oem orings can be any colour.dont know how you can find out the material they are made from.blue red yellow etc.often it may indicate different profile or metric sizes.

the important bit is to clean out as much old oil as you can and use the modern pag oil.

often if easter oil or other types of products are used the oring will explode from the inside out.

3 orings on the sanden pump-2 on seal and 1 body seal.these always leak and replacment pumps are not expensive.
same with the denso pumps-most are made to suit r134a with pag oil..

why bother, like every other seal in a landy, they'll just leak anyway...

(the green seals are the current correct stock for 134a)
