Hi All,

Just rubbing back one of my '53 80" fenders this afternoon and came across the remains of a painted name/logo....not a lot to be seen but thought someone might be able to shed some light on it ?

Looking like a A?HOUSE???S and below ROWENA but not sure if there were any other letters before or after.

I picked it up NW of Mooree... Would be neat to find out a bit more about the vehicle if anyone has any info. (possibly a Station Name ?)

cheers

Hi,

Rowena (Postcode 2387) is in Walgett Shire.

COULD IT BE "R HOUSE AND SON"
"ROWENA"

Just a thought..

I assume that your car now has a name?

Rowena? :)
(the hidden beauty in a name from a beautifully hidden name!)

I may be wrong but I think Rowena is a welsh (or irish?) name meaning happy.. (As I said, I could be completely wrong with that tho' - had a mate who called his boat rowena as it brought him happiness (until it threw a rod through the block! :) ) )

Until the 1960s(?) NSW required all commercially registered vehicles to have the name and address of the registered owner, and the unladen (Tare) weight marked on the RH side.

This is probably what you are seeing, if deciphered, may lead to identifying the original owner.

The chassis number might tell you something. As the Grenville records sometimes list who the vehicle was sold to. Or sometimes just which agent it was sold to.
