Hi, I was trundling down a country road near where I live recently
in my Freelander :o and cam across a vehicle graveyard. Lot's of
stuff, but I thought I saw some Land Rovers poking out there. So,
I hopped the fence with my camera. Not a Series export, but drove
some Series 2's when I was in the army in '72. THink these are 1s
and 2s.

The 1st is a 2, the 2nd a 1 and the 3rd seems to have lights in the middle
and the fenders so not sure about that one.

The second grey one could be worth checking out because it is an early 2

If it is a 1958 with the 2 litre engine it is very rare and collectable. Only a handfull exist in Australia

They are rarer than a 48

Good spotting!

The first is a late IIA (69-71)
The second as mentioned by Richard is not a series 1 but a SII (58-61).
The 3rd looks like a 61-67 IIA (wipers in screen)

G'day All,
some people wouldbe interested in the 'other' vehicles in the yard
a WW2 CMP directly behind the Land Rover and maybe even in the Mini off the rhs of frame LOL

How do you tell if it's an early series 2/ 2litre engine?
Last year I sold a registered series 2 to a family friend, and from memory the last 4 chassis numbers were 0013? Could this thing be an early one?

The 2 litre is a left over from S1 days and is side valve, whereas all later engines were OHV

OK so the 58-61 is this sucker - looks OK from the outside, but the shot I
took in the window is a real mess.

And what the *** is a WW2 CMP - OK so I did a bit of my own checking
and found nearly a million of these were produced in Canada during WW2.

The chassis on the '58 is probably knackered as well but chassis and bulkheads can be repaired.

Being the lunatic I am, I would save it if I was in your shoes :p

Thanks for posting the pics,

Cheers Charlie

Chazza... Mm.. they're not mine, just saw them in a paddock near me.
I do know who owns them but haven't spoken to him. (yet)
What I do know is that if I brought that home the other half
would kill me. "Another piece of junk lying around that you're never
going to get around to..."

The engine number will start with 1418..... if it is a 1958 and the chassis will start with 1438....

The truck has the screwed vents, turn knob adjusters, old type front valance, and old sills so it is definitely early

Hello from Brisbane.

If the grille badge is the original as fitted when new I would think it is unlikely to be a 1958 Series 2.

The badge appears to have the "Rover Australia Pty Ltd" manufacturing source label running along the bottom, whereas I think a 1958 would more likely have "Birmingham England" on the badge - I believe the "Solihull Warwickshire" label came later with the later Series 2As.

Of course, the badge might not be original..............

Cheers,

Cheers,
parts book says series 2 = "Solihull Warwickshire"

but there is land rovers involved so anything is possible...
