Hi!

Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 is the recommended oil in warranty, otherwise any full synthetic 5w40 diesel rated oil is fine. A genuine factory oil filter is the best, you will need 6.5 litres of oil, a 13mm ring spanner for sump plug, and a 1"1/16 socket (The same size as your wheel nuts) to undo the filter housing, access from undernearth.

IMO, these are the easier of the Defender engines to change oil on, oil drops out and filter comes off WITH NO MESS!!

that would be a major improvement

- I have found that newspaper judicously hung over steering rods and front axle, and shaped to provide channels for the waste oil to flow to the drainers has helped a bit

Yes, I use a cut down base of a 10l oil container on top of the diff of Tdi's, and even that isn't immune to falling off and dropping oil everywhere:mad: Makes it easier with the axle at full droop on a 2 post hoist though:angel:
And 200Tdi Disco is a major stupidity with the oil filter drip dropping straight onto the front diff universals and tailshaft :( :(

Air filter is dead easy, though abit fiddly, undo the intake air sensor connector, you may find it easier to also undo the air intake pipe and pull it to one side, then lift the element out, just make sure that when you put the new one in, it seats properly around the rubber lip of the air cleaner element. It's handy to be able to pull out and check your air cleaner element when your out in remote areas to help with keeping the dust build up to a minimum.
Hope this helps
