So what was your destination this Easter? We headed up to Gympie (Queensland Australia) and went west. After 20 minutes of driving we arrived at our much anticipated destination. Widgee Mountain Wilderness - all 3,500 acres of it!
It has all the elements that make for a fantastic four wheel drive experience. There were just so many options with heaps of tracks to cater for all – plenty are very straight forward tracks, others were moderately difficult and some tracks are technical. What ever track you choose you will not be disappointed, all of the country side looks amazing.
The creeks are beautiful. The crossings are rocky, generally shallow and the water is slow flowing. There is soft off road adventuring in the beautiful valley of the mountain. You can traverse on graded tracks and see plenty of wild life, even koalas and deer.
If you are keen for a bit more adventure there are plenty of technical climbs. We were lucky enough to take on some near vertical climbs onto and across the saddle of Mt Widgee. One of the look outs is used as the launch pad by the local hand gliders – it is an amazing view!
While off wheel adventuring we stopped to take in the spectacular look outs, do a bit of bush walking, sit under beautiful waterfalls, swim in the water holes, and eat at the shaded picnic spots. Widgee Mountain Wilderness has the most beautiful country side and wildlife.
The handbrake got to choose where to sleep. Options were a very pretty camp site or a beautiful self contained cabin that is located 30 meters off a trickling creek in the rainforest. The full moon was out and so were millions of stars.
I have to rave, this place has it all (and I don’t have a financial connection to the place). All the four wheel driving, camping (or cabin) and beautiful countryside that you can wish for. If you have not already been there, you should definitely get a couple of trucks together and go check them out.
