Fuel filter protection

Hello, after a weekend of very enjoyable 4wdriving in my Disco 2 I was having a look around to see what would be vulnerable underneath to copping a potential whack. The fuel filter looks to be the first thing that could cause me problems. Has anyone had any problems in this area, or made up a guard to protect this? I figure it is best to sort this out before I am stranded out bush with fuel rapidly emptying onto the ground!

Often thought mine was vulnerable but after 260,000klms with lots of dirt, gibber roads, loose rock and some very hard climbs etc, never even looked like copping a problem. I did tuck up the wire to the water indicater a bit better to stop catching on anything though.:D

Like the other bloke, 260000 odd km lots offroad, not a prob, but agree the potential is there. I carry a spare, but a search here may reveal some contraptions people have made up....one from PVC pipe comes to mind...

I use a neoprene stubby holder to provide some protection. Several other posts etc indicate that there isn't a big issue with it in the wheel arch location. Cut a hole in the bottom for the drain hole, or remove all of the bottom, as this is glued in.

The only problem is the plastic bit on the end may break.Keep a bolt in the glovebox & it will screw in & stop the leak.
The plastic fatigues probably due to heat,not damage by something hitting it.

Can't remember the bolt size,could be 10mm?

We had the plastic cap fail once, probably due to heat as it was running slow-ish following a group of cyclists

We were on bitumen at the time and the chance of a stone causing it to break, we don't believe so.

I think a TD5 Defer guard can be installed, but it would still leave the base and the plastic plug vulnerable so maybe an extra piece of sheet attached to form a base?

I like Urban Panzers Idea BUT again, I have never seen any impact damage or stone damage or anything happen to these, even in horrific terrain.
