View Full Version : D2a TD5 high pressure fuel line - sold only as part of a 4-line kit?

My 2003 TD5 D2a has started to leak fuel from above the fuel tank, which I understand from reading various topics is probably the green-banded high pressure fuel line (this makes sense given the fine spray of diesel eminating from the area).

On calling my local LR dealer I was quoted over $200 for the fuel line kit, which includes all 4 lines. This confused me somewhat as I'd previously been quoted around $30 for the high pressure line alone, though I thought this may have been due to a misunderstanding about which D2 model I have.

Does anyone know if the high pressure fuel line is sold separately for the D2a? If not, is this because the fuel lines/connectors are different from the pre-facelift D2 (i.e. will pre-facelift D2 fuel lines fit a D2a)?

Cheers

Called the LR dealer again and spoke to someone who knew about the recall for the high pressure fuel line rubbing through.

Turns out only the 4 line kit is on the official parts list, while the separate line is available because the dealer happens to have stock left over after the recall action.

Given that the separate line costs about 10% (yes, one-tenth!) of the 4-line kit, I'm well chuffed.

The green banded one, is that a short line that just runs to the fuel filter or a long one that goes all the way to the engine bay, which might explain the price difference ?

Good question.

According to the RAVE manual the high pressure line appears to go from the fuel pump all the way to the fuel regulator on the engine, but from the pics I've seen of the full kit online, they all appear to be relatively short.

Have a look at the 5th picture in post #6 of this thread: http://www.aulro.com/afvb/discovery-2/132659-disco2-fuel-leak.html

There appears to be a connection along the high pressure line that splits it into shorter sections, so my guess (and I'll confirm this with the LR dealer) is that I'll only be getting the 'short' version of the green-banded line.

I suspect the cost difference is down to the dealer having excess stock and simply selling at their cost.

There is a snap-on connector in the HP line going to the regulator - it's on the inside of the drivers side chassis rail in line with the fuel filter. so the green banded line is only short with two bends, each of approximately 90 deg.

Yip, picked the fuel line up at the dealer this morning for $28 and it was just the short section with the clip at one end that connects to the rest of the line along the chassis rail.

Hi discobarney. Which dealer?

Was just about to drive to the snow for the weekend and noticed the telltale puddle and the drips when running Instead of skiing, I'm replacing the lines.

Quoted at $240 plus gst for the 4.

Will drive anywhere in MELB to pick up if I can get the one line for 30 bucks.

Hey stallie,

Try ULR on Malvern Rd (www.ulr.com.au). Last time I spoke to them they still had a good number of kits.

Thanks Mate. I rang them yesterday $240 plus gst for the kit but didn't know about the single line then, didn't ask.

First thing this am i rang Ritter; they had the Single line for $40. Apparently now a regular item. Didn't try further, just went to get it.

Wrapped up in that windy spiral cable protector from bunnings electrical and replaced in about 15 mins.

All good. Still smarting about the missing the snow though.

At least it didn't happen on the Tanami last month

Glad you got it sorted.

I spoke with two different people at ULR (can't remember their names now), and while one of them knew about the $30 kit, the other didn't. Fortunately, I spoke to the correct guy again later on, and the only reason he knows about the kits is because they were part of a recall some years back, and ULR appears to still have a decent stock of kits from then.

Hope you make it to the snow sometime soon.

You wouldn't happen to have or know the part number for the single line please?

Just be sure to zip tie the small redundant loom at the RH front corner of the fuel tank to the new line.

Mine wore through the line seemingly over many years of just sitting on it.
