If it is registered, it must have plates.
No plates, you can assume not registered.
To tow an unregistered trailer, strictly speaking you must have a permit issued in the state it originated from.
Unregistered vehicle permit : VicRoads (http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/UnregisteredVehiclePermit.htm)
I have been with people in NSW with Victorian exempt trailer plates. The local boys in blue booked them for having unregistered trailers. The Vic exempt trailer plate is only recognised in Victoria.
Alternatively, borrow a trailer to transport the Track trailer on.
Which Track trailer is it? An ex RAAF? The civilian version of the RAAF one? The camper? The T-Van? The Topaz?

You can get an unregistered veh permit from the NSW roads and maritine here is a link
Unregistered Vehicle Permits (UVPs) (http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/unregisteredvehicles/uvp.html)

havent used a nsw one, hope it is as easy as vic rosd permit:)

I tried to get an unregistered vehicle permit in NSW a couple of times.
They wouldn't issue one without a NSW address and a pink slip.
I told them they were useless bureaucrats on several occasions. Made no difference.

NSW address is not a problem( I have one) but the pink/blue slip will have to be done after pick up but if its been registered in nsw before its not hard just pay the money:)

There's your answer Mary, with The Booger's help.
Is it the civvy version of the RAAF ones? There was one at Pickles a month or so back.

do you own a registered trailer already? :wasntme:Be very careful using the plates from one trailer or motor vehicle on another trailer or motor vehicle.

The fines for an unregistered vehicle is something in the order of $1,500 and some demerit points.

The fine for false prentences can be tens of thousands of dollars and a prison sentence.

So the risk of an unregistered trailer is potentially much less than a charge of fraud and a criminal record.

Get an unregistered vehicle permit.

BTW an UVP must be issued in the state where the journey commences. You only need a safety inspection report (pink slip) not a blue slip. If the RMS give you problems state the reason is to remove the trailer from NSW to Vic for re-registration in Vic, you therefore do not have a NSW address. If they don't accept that, ask to see their supervisor, stand your ground and keep going up the heirachy until you get to the Minister for Transport. His name is The Hon. Duncan Gay.

The trailer needs to be roadworthy, you will need a pink slip, tell the pink slip issuer it is for a permit to tow an unregistered trailer, take the pink slip, your reciept, any chassis numbers to the nearest RTA office and they will issue you with a permit. If there are no chassis numbers you will have to get/pay the pink slip bloke to stamp a number on the drawbar usually issued by the RTA, good luck, Regards Frank.

I like the bit about a pink slip or a "customer declaration of roadworthness" if they accept your word for it anything could be roadworthy if you want:twisted:

And a nice looking trailer it is.
I was toying with the idea of getting that one myself.
Just toying. Interesting things tend to attract my attention.

Let us know how you go with the NSW permit and the Vic registration.

Local Mech/Testing garage checked it out-lights,jacked up and checked wheel bearings etc.Cost $20 and it was good to know I was heading home with a safe set up behind me.RTA permit was another $20 and after an hrs wait some nice friendly service which included checking the radar re incoming storms and after
a look at that I made it further away from the mountains and lousy weather.
It's a nice bit of goods but unfortunately will now have to sell the workshop as too many regos and limited space,
Cheers,
Mary
